Was working in the tech room and heard one of my guys (let's call him Bob) talking to Dell about getting a replacement battery for one of my user's laptops. All of a sudden, Bob got mad and told the rep to put his manager on the phone. Apparently, the Dell guy tried to get Bob to give up his Social security Number over the phone. I guess Bob thought the Dell guy was trying to steal his identy or something...

Bob got real mad and call Dell back and officially reported it to one of our corporate reps. Now I guess Dell is investigating the matter and the Dell guy may be fired

I just shook my head and went about my business.

1.) has anyone from Dell ever asked you for your SSN?

2.) have you ever tried to get someone else fired?

Fvcking guy from earthlink asked for SSN when I was ordering my DSL account and I stupidly gave it to him. A week later $4k were charged and another $2k were in the process of be charge to the same CC I used to open my DSL. Luckily I caught it right away and didn't have to pay a dime.

nobody is supposed to ask for your SSN over the phone except your credit card or your bank, or the govt.

First, I've yet to hear a credit card speak.

Second, if he was talking to Dell Financing/Credit/Whatever, then they have valid reason to want his SSN.

My credit card talks to me all the time. It tells me to stop using him.

1. Not that I recall
2. Yep and succeeded.

You guys have got a couple of stories to tell.

What happened?

And how do you know that they were fired as a result of your actions?

I knew it, you're really a dark bastard are't you?

I had a feeling there was something evil lurking, too many Dell (and other) deals for someone who hadn't sol their soul to the devil.
