Well, what I'll usually do is ping a IP that is available in you segment. change the IP and serve away. and when you're done change the IP back. I know, I know, you people probably wonder what about the MAC address..well thats y I have an extra nic around. Open the case swap the nic and trash the other one.

Give the guy some credit. At least he shared. Unlike some of you selfish ppl who burn them on CD and lock them up.

Hey, people are stupid.

I've been chatting today with someone who got fired for commenting on a girls "perky tits." He even knew the girl, & had had discussions about said tits before. Oh well, he's out of a job now.

I've done quite a few investigations and busts in this area at work. I am the Assistant Sys. Admin. and I occasionally run queries against our proxy log for all the keywords (ie.-sex, hot, etc.). Anyway, our network scheme uses computer names that are the same as the cubicle number that the computer resides in. That makes it really easy to track down the exact computer. A lot of places randomly name their computers, but if you really want to track someone down, name them in accordance with their physical location in the building.

Anyway, we had a guy who everytime someone would walk by his cubicle, he would shut off his monitor. Well, one day the Account Manager walked by and wondered why he turned off his monitor. She told him to turn it back on and he said, "No. I don't want to." Well, she forced his hand and he ended up turning it on to a screen full of pr0n. Well, he was immediately termed, but at least I got to surf his hard drive to see exactly what it was he was viewing. I like my job sometimes...

I don't think I've ever seen or heard the phrase "said tits" before. It's got a nice ring to it. (Or through it if you're kinky.)

Rogue...

If he'd been smart, he would have hit the reset switch, or at least ALT-F4 a crapload of times.

Just last week, my dad had to fire a guy that was downloading pr0n. He works for the government and this dweeb was told, "we do not monitor each and every e-mail and Internet file you generate, but we do periodic checks on a monthly basis." I suppose he figured those "periodic checks" would mean he would never be checked, but in one of those random checks, they turned up tons of pr0n he had SAVED on his work computer and email from a pr0n mailing list. So, since this is a government worker, he of course has threatened to sue over getting fired. Invasion of privacy and all.

Definitely a dumbass.

We've found porn on the network servers before, and simply deleted it. If the dummy calls and asks about his missing files we'll tell a manager/boss, but don't worry about it too much. If someone calls to get their network quota raised we'll say ok it'll be done in 30 minutes. We'll spend a few minutes snooping through their files to make sure there isn't any bad things on there.

We were doing some work on the DHCP server today and noticed that someone had named their computer "Big Boy" so we just killed that connection because the guy was just being assinine. We name the computers the same as the username on the NT domain so we can VNC into the computers easier. We just waited for a few minutes to see if anyone called about the internet being down. No one did. Figure the guy must know enough about computers to release/renew on DHCP or reboot before giving us a call.

OMG, is there really that much stupidity? If you need porn, bring in a damn magazine and hide it with your belongings, don't store it on a computer which could be used by anybody, and is company property.

Do people really lack that much self-control that they need to "relieve" themselves at work?

We have a guy here who regularly surfs to smut sites. I come in normally around noon and that is when he does go to those. I have my proxy window up sometimes and I have seen it. However I am not going to complain.. its teh executive dept. They can do what they want. However as long its not something like "smut virus" that doesnt allow the system to boot I am fine. I do block certian sites.. but trying to update it. is too much, so I just let them go thru it like mature adults that we are.
