Fucking brilliant. Especially the year over year cost reduction.

Some customers... ugh.

Heh...dealt with those companies, and I've brought this up before to them. "Basically you're asking for something for free, and then you want to pay for the next one. Nobody falls for that anymore."

It was good. Would have been closer to brilliant if he had matched the risk profile a little more analogously. His projects probably run 5-6 figures, and there's some risk in committing that kind of budget vs. ordering food or drink or engaging a trainer on a per-visit basis.

I've never heard of this. What the hell is working on "spec"?

Something that's pretty common for creative types like graphic designers. You do work for me for free or for a heavily reduced rate - if I like it, I pass your business card around my buddies and get you exposure, you have something in your portfolio, etc. If my business venture succeeds, then I'll pay you for the next job I'll inevitably need.

Kinda like Interning. Common enough for kids in college, etc., but not really something a serious person proposes to somebody over 30, or whose skills they have any respect for.

Stuff like that is fairly common for high valued purchases and licenses, although it is typically demonstrated by either showing prior work, demoing, and or checks at existing customer sites.

Good description. Thanks for the explanation.
