Gutting a laptop for the LCD screen?

I want to put a computer into my car, and the main thing holding me up right now is the screen. I have seen 7" LCD screens online, but the decent ones go for over $300. There are many older laptops for around $50-100, which have 12.1" LCD screens. Is there any way I would be able to disconnect the LCD controller, and use it on a different computer?

If anyone has done this before, or has any ideas about how to do it, please post comments/ideas/suggestions! Thanks for any help you guys can give.

It's possible - if you can find a PCI or AGP controller for the LCD. They exist for some of them.

In order to use a laptop screen with a regular video card, you need a special LCD controller to hook it up. The controller will typically run anywhere from 150-200 dollars. You are better off getting an LCD screen for like, a PSOne or something.

Well....it's hardware related, but kind of random, so I figured to put it in OT. Move if you see fit.



I have tried using the PSOne screen before, but it is only 5", and the resolution is terrible. Good thinking though! I'll look into the LCD controllers now.

im guessing you can probably hack together a converter or something. maybe. What else is radioshack useful for.
