Gupta out of Surgeon General

CNN says medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta won't be the next surgeon general.

The news network reported Gupta's withdrawal Thursday.

The Obama administration confirmed that Gupta, a neurosurgeon and Livonia native, had taken himself out of the running because he wants to focus on his medical career and spend more time with his family.
