First of all, Axl is a nut case, period. His history proves this beyond all shadow of a doubt, even some antics on this current tour.Originally posted by: slimrhcp

GNR coming - no one cares!! Axl will show up late, lose his voice, slap-fight with someone, blah blah blah, yawn yawn yawn.
If you bothered to read any of the reviews from shows dating back to May of this year you'd be eating your words about now.
You're kidding, right. Some of their original stuff was epic, but 15 years is a couple of lifetimes in music and musical trends. Did you happen to catch it when they closed the MTV awards show a couple of years back? What a boring burn out retread that was. He couldn't carry a note and his voice was toasted - and they weren't even touring at the time.
Pffft...reviewers, record promoters, tour promoters. They are all in the same boat - money and how much can be milked from the past. Axl bought the rights to a name/product and is milking it for all it's worth. The significance of GnR touring now is right up there with the American Idol Tour coming to a town near you.
A fan of GnR past.
Okay, have you heard any of the new songs? If so, then you'll realize that all of the "epic songs" were almost entirely composed by Axl.
As far as the 02 vma debacle goes, the problem was Axl couldn't hear his voice during Welcome to the Jungle. If you watch the video of it, you'll notice him trying to adjust his earphone. By the time they were playing the second song, he was on key, and sounded good.
What do reporters have to gain from giving the new GNR a positive review?
The reason Axl bought the name was because he wanted to ensure that the name they made would live on no matter what. It's not hard to see why Axl was worried when you think about the substance abuse problems in the band (ie Duff, Slash, Izzy, and Matt) after what happened with Steven Adler.
If you took the time to listen to GNR before, what is it going to cost you to listen to some of the new songs?
He is the reason that Chinese Democracy, which is mostly crap, hasn't come out yet.
Bob Ezrin was called in to give an opinion on C.D. and told Axl he had maybe 2 good songs.
Axl went ballistic, supposedly...not surprising.
Axl bought the GnR name so he could have control....and he isn't capable of having control. That's why no new music.
That's why the real GnR is defunct.
And I heard the 02 VMA's...Axl sounded like he always does live. I've heard numerous recordings from the current tour of varying quality...and the one thing that doesn't vary is that Axl's voice is about the same as it was 12-14 years ago...hit or miss.
I don't think he's ever sang Sweet Child good live. Always sounds like a frog singing that song.
He's very erratic on other live songs. Just like always.
I'm not going to debate his mental status with you. How would you know if Chinese Democracy is crap? Are you privy to information that very few others are?
Bob Ezrin got involved on the project at horrible time for the band, when Robin left to go back with NIN, so to say the new GNR was a low point would be a safe assumption.
Once again, if you've heard various recordings from the current tour, you're in a lucky position considering no bootlegs have popped up on any of the GNR message boards.
Like I said in a previous post, if you read any of the reviews you would at least respect his performances of late.
I won't deny that GNR looked like crap in 02, but this year is a much different story.
