It's not explicitly stated this way
But they did cancel a few hours after being given the "no drinking order"

LEWISTON, Maine - Guns N' Roses canceled a performance in Portland, Maine this week after being told by state officials that the band could not drink on stage.

Inspectors from the state fire marshal's office gave the band the no-drinking order when they came to look over the pyrotechnics planned for Monday's scheduled concert at the Cumberland County Civic Center, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Public Safety Department.

McCausland said the band had wanted to drink beer, wine and Jagermeister while performing. A couple of hours after being told that would violate state law, Guns N' Roses canceled its concert, he said.

After the cancellation, a band spokesperson blamed fire marshals for "making it impossible for the band to perform their show to the usual high standards that their fans deserve." The press release, however, did not give a specific reason for the pullout.

Band leader
Axl Rose issued a statement through the Guns N' Roses Web site apologizing to fans in Maine.

"It was important for us to play there and it is a shame that what should have been a great night for all of us was not possible due to the actions of two people," said Rose, referring to the fire marshals.

"I agree with, and ultimately take responsibility for, the end decision not to jeopardize the safety of the fans, the crews, the bands and myself as a result of the methods of these particularly draconian authorities," Rose's statement said. "We hope to find another way to play for you in the future."

Jeff Austin, supervisor of liquor licensing and inspection for the state Department of Public Safety, said state law prohibits performers from drinking while on stage, and prohibits employees at establishments with liquor licenses from drinking on the job.

"It's been on the books for years," said Austin, adding that he talked to state inspectors Monday afternoon while they were at the civic center to read them the law.

Austin said he's issued citations for three or four administrative violations of the no-drinking law this year.

The Cumberland County Civic Center Web site said refunds for the Guns N' Roses concert would be issued at the point of purchase.

Yeah, I've hated those guys (Axl especially) for years for crap like that. They get paid to drink, have sex with women, play rock and roll, and party. But they wont hesitate to let down fans over nothing.

Talk about being total asses. That's the dumbest reason to cancel a show and piss off your fans. Someone should tell Axl his singing sucks when he's drunk. Anyway, this is the new line-up and I don't care.

some bands HAVE to drink to be able to perform.

If Nirvana could perform on Unplugged while being sober, so can GnR. I have seen some pretty lousy performances of 'Estranged' & 'Breakdown' by GnR - two songs that are simply amazing in their studio versions.

Does anyone want to see them now anyway? All the talent in that band left a LONG time ago.

Most girls I've spoken to don't seem to understand, but some people have a face you just gotta punch. Axl Rose was the first person to make me understand that. This typifies the behaviour and attitude that justifies my position.

And his nasalgasm singing on their version of "Heaven's Door" ranks as my #1 worst cover ever.

Our liquor laws are probably the worst thing about this country outside of our current president.

Nothing to you, but obviously something to them.

This is what happens when you try to legislate morality.

What's crap is not allowing them to do something that they are legally allowed to do while doing something else that they are legally allowed to do.

Drinking and driving I understand

Drinking and playing - got forbid no.....

I have never understood this either. I believe if they reversed the drinking age and the driving age, that you would have far fewer problem with drinking and driving.

I'll take the band's side on this one...

This the fvcking US OF A. Why the fvck is there a law so specific that a rock band cannot drink while on stage?

I think they did the right thing.

I have to say that I think it's retarded that they can't drink on stage. I would still be pissed off if I were a fan, though.

I'd like to add to my comment earlier, I have no qualms about the alcohol itself here. The only thing I'm concerned with in the slightest is the attitude of GnR. They've screwed over their fans before by ditching sold out concerts and acting like spoiled children. I have nothing but contempt for a band of misfits who came together because they couldn't get through high school or hold a job at McDonalds, then fvck over the fans who made them popular because they can't drink. And this is a rock band here, we all know that we're not talking about casual sips of beer between songs, we're talking about gulping down two bottles of Everclear at once and getting absolutely smashed in front of an audience.

But my opinion doesn't matter for crap. You can agree or disagree all you want. The only thing I can do is continue to not buy any of their stuff or go to any of their concerts.
