Fun as hell at the range, cheap to shoot, but expect to catch flack from people who probably think you bought the gun because you played a few rounds too many of Counter-Strike.

A friend of mine has 4 of them. As they come from the factory, they are already very quiet with regular .22 ammunition. He SBRed one of his, and added a suppressor, and it's dead quiet w/ subsonic ammunition. Just the mechanical noise of the bolt operating.

They're a lot of fun, cheap to shoot, and draw a crowd at any range.

I looked into these a few months ago, because hey, they look awesome! We can't get a real 9mm MP-5, so this is the next best thing. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of quality problems with them, enough to deter me from spending 500+ dollars on a gun that simply looks cool. I can't remember the exact issues, this was a few months ago, but browse the GSG forum over at AR-15.com and you'll see what I mean.

I'd buy it if I had the money. Shooting with something like this would just be for fun, and regardless of caliber that'd be fun to shoot. Plus it'd be really cheap so you'd get more shooting in per/$

Yup, thats probably the reason why I told him to research them before buying from them. They are known for shenanigans.

I don't understand your statement. I just saw an MP-5 civilian at a gun show a month or two ago.

I guess the question to the OP is what are you looking for? Something that looks cool, is cheap to shoot, or something that is practical. Personally if you want a 22, I really like the G22 by Walther. It's got the bullpup look, smaller than the one you're looking at but still an assault rifle look. If you're going for a more powerful rifle and something to use at a range but still look traditional, I'd look into the Beretta CX4 in 9mm. You can also get it in .40 or .45.

Full auto MP5s run in the $25,000 range. H&K Authentic semi-auto MP5s (with legal length barrels) are known as HK94s. Expect to pay around $4000 since they're no longer imported.

If you want a .22lr, get a 10/22 or step up and get an AR15. CMMG has AR's for $600+shipping. $200 will get you a .22LR conversion kit and now you have a gun that can do .22lr or .223/5.56 and will be better than the GSG clone.

All good thoughts. Good plinker, bad for power / etc. Any recommendations on similar weapons in the 9MM range?

Unless you want the ability to change back to 223/5.56 easily, just go for the colt or s&w ar-15 lookalikes for ~500.

I'm personally thinking of building an ar pistol or maybe regular ar in 9mm. If I go regular ar, might go olympic arms just to have the ability to use glock magazines.

I've heard good things as well and have many several purchases from them. A mix of handguns and long guns and planned on doing more business in the future. They have some good prices and freely ship to California.

Check out the review by nutnfancy on Youtube on it. I can't link to it at work.

Also as suggested you could go with a CMMG conversion for AR. The upside to that compared to a dedicated one is you get to use all of your cool things you have on your AR (mostly optics but other things too). nutnfancy has reviews on the conversion and 10/22 too.

Shot a 9mm version of that at a range. Fun as hell, barely any recoil, not even loud.

Don't understand the need for this.

I have an AR-15 with a .22LR conversion kit. I can do all of that, without the expense. The kit replaces the bolt carrier and has inserts for regular mags. I shoot .22LR right out the same barrel as .223 and in 2 minutes, I can go back to shooting .223.

How's the accuracy? I love my AR but I couldn't imagine a short barreled 22 being all that accurate. Then again I'm no expert.

I would prefer a real one, but I dont even know if its legal in my state.
Most places tend to ban guns based on how scary they look.
