Gun shows are bad.

Spent more money on a sight for my PTR this weekend. Hello lighter wallet.

Vortex strikefire red dot that comes with a screw on 2x magnifier. Have to wait till the weekend to try it out though 🙁

I've still never been myself but have always heard the deals aren't usually very good...would still be a nice way to waste an afternoon sometime though...nice looking rifle BTW:thumbsup:

is dat fo real?

yuh it real. .308 is expensive to shoot 🙁

A lot of the stuff there is overpriced for the most part ($1000+ AK because it has a "custom paint job"), but you will find a few gems if you look hard/go enough.

The ones around here have too many freaking AR-15s...I still refuse to get one since they are the Honda Civics of ranges around here. EVERYONE has one.

Haha...of course everyone has one, they're a blast and cheap to shoot, unlike your .308😉 I just built myself one and love it, just finishing up bulding one for the wife with pink furniture...almost couldn't do it but if she's gonna go shooting with me why not eh?

Where you at in Texas?

I'll stick with a Finnish-modified Mosin Nagant for range shooting.
While I'd like to have a PTR, they're awfully expensive.

Agreed. And the deals aren't that good. Plus there is a lot of junk and political crap which really turns me off but I guess the religitards like that nonsense.

Houston. Not a pretty place but there are plenty of ranges.

Haven't gotten a fin yet, but I have plenty of Mosins (2 M44s, 1 91/30, 2 91/30 snipers).

I'm in the process of "restoring" an ex-sniper back to it's former glory for my girlfriend to shoot. She's the only woman I know who has no problem shooting it with the steel buttplate in place. She's a trooper 😀

the closest gun show to me costs $8 to park and $8 admission. $16 gone before you even get in the door.

I agree that AR-15 stuff has pretty much taken over the shows. Every other table has AR-15 stuff. I have one and they are cool, but I do like other stuff too.

Prices generally aren't that good as stated. Sometimes you can find decent deals though, just don't go to a show expecting to find lots of them.

That upfront cost is basically what's kept me away from them, especially since most people say there really aren't many good deals it just doesn't seem too worth it to pay to walk around...

Congrats on the new sight though and welcome...always nice to see more Texans around here😀

PTR-91 is a nice rifle.

But I still prefer the FN/FAL.

One thing about the PTR, the magazines are cheap, like dirt cheap. If you pay for then $3 for a PTR magazine, you paid too much. A buddy of mine caught PTR mags on sale for like $1 each, he ordered something like 60 of them.

Thanks! Always good to know that people here suffer the heat the same as me each summer D:

I grabbed about 15 of them off of CTD back when they were .99c a piece. They all look brand new except some with a little wear from insertion. I've debated on getting the steel (3.99 a pop) but I think that'd just cause more wear vs the aluminum that I currently have and use.

That is the only thing I hate about this hobby, it is VERY expensive and you always want another upgrade.

Gun shows around here are good for ammo deals, and not much else. I remember at the last one there was a guy selling a new Bersa Thunder .380 for $375 lol. By contrast: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=275687867 ($271.82)

I like selection, too. I'll usually see a lot of old WWII guns, not just the American ones either. Books, off the wall stuff, military surplus survival gear, etc. Gun shows are really good for that type of stuff, things your local Gander Mountain doesn't have.

Is the gun accurate? What kind of shooting do you do?

Red dot really makes it easier and faster to shoot to low to middle range, but 2x is really low for magnification, especially for a 308.

My rifle is 223 but I would really like my 1-4x dot to be a (twice as expensive) 1-6x... ironically it's not so much that I need to see the target larger, but that I need the dot to be smaller in proportion to the target, because right now the dot almost completely covers the smallest targets I need to shoot and that disturbs the aim like crazy.

Gun shows around here are horrible. Overprices, AR's, AK's, and Glock's. Lots of fat mall ninjas fully dressed out and lots of beef jerky.

Gun is very accurate if I pay for the more expensive/match grade ammo. It has a match grade barrel so it all depends on the shooter and the ammo 🙂. Right now I just use the crappy monarch ammo that sells for 9.99/20 at academy, but I do have some brown bear on the way.

I only shoot at 50yds at my range, the targets they have are red circles about 6inches in diameter...I have a hard time seeing them with my PSL at 100yds when using a 9x scope. I love my PSL  .

The red dot I got is advertised as 4moa which will be perfect for the distances I'm shooting.

i have had BAD experinces with buying ammo at gun shows and will never do so again. the last time about 10 years ago i got a box of wadcutters for my .38 3 shots into the box was a light load that got my attention. tried to unload it but the cylinder would not open, look closer and the damn bullet is stuck between the barrel and cylinder.

took it to a gunsmith and the first thing he ask was. "you bought the ammo at a guns show didnt you... never buy ammo at a gun show."
