The only one I can find locally that is under $1000 is a Sentry safe from Wal Mart.
Click for link.
I've seen an American Eagle safe made by Cannon that looks pretty good for a little less than 1000 shipped also.
Anyone know of an good places that sell and ship safes?
Not looking to spend over 1000.

I may even just get the Wal Mart safe but wanted to see if anyone here had any ideas?

Is there an Academy Sports near you ? They sell them as do many sporting good stores/gun shops. The shipping on a safe will be heavy.

If you are interested in the sentry from walmart call the sporting goods counter at your local super center. They had the ones left over from x-mas on clearance at my local store. And i'm sure they don't show the discounted price online

Just down the road there's a sign for one that will be opening. I'm sure it will be another couple months before it's open. I don't really mind waitng if I have to. Just wanted to start looking now.

Yeah, I've been there the last 3 thursdays. That's when the girl behind the counter says they mark things down. She says it up to the home office when/how much they mark them down so she has no idea. She also said she doesn't remember them marking them down at all last year. The instore price is 599.87, I think.

Still not bad for a gun safe when I compare there specs to others but I would like to get it a bit cheaper if possible.

Go find a gun-nut forum and ask them.

I have asked on two gun sites and I can aske here if I please. I think there's a pretty big group of "gun nerds" on here from other threads I've read.
If you don't have a safe or don't know anything about them why would you come in to this thread?

Oh wait, I just checked your post count. Question answered.

I won't only be keeping guns in it. That will be the main reason but there are numerous other important things I would put in there.

he owns a gun repair and reselling business so you know he isn't going to put his stuff in any cheap ass piece of crap.

Stack On 20gun fire resistant safe

Your dad has the same one I linked earlier? How does it compare in quality/features to yours? I like the stack on one. Did you order it? How much was shipping?

I'm just trying to justify paying ~650 for the one at wal mart vs. ~900 - 1000 for a better quality one.

yes. The sentry has the same fireproog rating that some others that I have looked at 1200 degrees for 30 minutes or so. That should be sufficient. ALthough more would be better, the price goes up.

I think my dads must be an older model, because in looking at the specs you posted the one you linked is 59" high which is the same as mine, but my dads is about 3-4 inches shorter, and it doesn't have the bungie organizing system shown in the one you link. The features are about the same (same type electronic locking system), the only real difference is mine looks and feels sturdier and its rated 200 degrees higher on the fire resistance. Comparing the specs its 50lbs heavier than the one you link even though its slightly narrower and not quite as deep.

Mine from LL Bean only cost $68 to ship to DFW,TX. But it took just over a month to get here

the company that made his safes won't bring them into the house unless the floor is on solid concrete or the floor is reinforced. they had a few go through the floor a few hours after they installed them. they also have some kind of robot machine that carries the safes and can go down steps and stuff.

also, to test the fireproof, they put a white piece of paper in the safe and then put the safe in the fire. the paper is not discolored at all. most safes will discolor the paper.

Do you have any pics of your safe? It's hard to get a good idea from the one pic
online. I actually like yours better because it's only 22" and can fit in a closet of mine. The Sentry is 24 3/8 and will not fit in my closet.
Just not sure it's worth extra $$.
Any other suggestions?

Nope and nope. Just looked at both of their sites and dicks is ~66 miles away and gander is further.
I went to TX earlier this week and visited a cabella's. Saw some nice safes there. Wish we had one of them nearby.
Like I said earlier, an Academy Sports is opening soon locally but when i emailed them they could not confirm the store. I may wait but I've been wanting one for a long time and now have some extra $$.
