I've read a lot about the P22.

How exactly is it different from the P99? Just size?

Here is my proposed set up:

P22 - are all the bodies polymer? Any metal ones?
Laser (not sure if red or green would be better) -seems like viridian is popular
suppressor a lot of them out there, what do you look for here?

I've read that the subsonic ammo with suppressor won't eject the shell. Is there any subsonic ammo that can reliably? Not a big deal to manually do it, just curious.

In terms of buying, would you recommend an online shop? Do you trust pawn shop firearms?

Does a P22 require a conceal and carry permit? How much does that run?

Does the suppressor require a Class 3 license? How much does that run?

What would be a good guess as to the total cost on the hardware?

Just curios Why are you interested in a suppressor, and the P22 is okay...I have fired them.
didn't care for it. I prefer a 1911 with a nice conversion kit.

Well it's a fullsize weapon to start, feels good in the hand. It's single action, so no long trigger pull, which makes for better accuracy. A classic combat weapon that has got nearly a 100 year history and is still very popular. What's not to like.:D

The P99 fires 9mm Luger Parabellum cartridges.

The P22 fires .22 Long Rifle cartridges. The P22 is slightly smaller and is also less robust since the .22LR is a much weaker round than the 9mm Luger. The slide on the P22 is made of Zinc rather than steel and some people believe this contributes to durability problems in the long run (5,000+ rounds put through the firearm).

All are polymer. There are no all-metal P22s.

Personally, I find a laser to be superfluous. Learn to shoot using iron sights first. Starting out by just slapping a laser on the gun is a good way to learn bad habits. Using the iron sights will require you to learn proper form. If you learn the right form first and then get a laser, it will be much more effective.

In a semi-auto, any low-power round has the potential to fail to cycle the action properly. Because of variances in manufacturing, two examples of the "same" gun may work differently with the same ammunition. This is something you will need to experiment with yourself.

You cannot buy a firearm online unless you are a licensed dealer. You can have a shop with an online presence ship the firearm to a local dealer where you will have to appear in person, fill out a BATFE 4473 form, and wait for any applicable waiting period before you can take possession of the firearm. Note that most dealers will charge $30-$50 to "transfer" a firearm meaning that 99% of the time the savings from the online dealer is wiped out by the local dealer's fees. Also note that many local dealers will refuse to transfer a firearm if it is one that they can get in stock themselves.

As far as pawn shops, I would not recommend that a person unfamiliar with firearms buy from one as it is important to thoroughly check the operation of any used firearm.

If you intend to carry the firearm concealed, then yes. Otherwise no.

Arizona has an excellent open-carry tradition so you are able to carry openly without a permit. If you want a concealed carry permit, the state fee is $60, and you are required to take an 8-hour course as well. The courses are offered by private entities and prices vary, but expect $200-$400 for the course.

A Class 3 SOT is for a dealer of NFA weapons.

What you will need to own a silencer is an NFA tax stamp. This is $200 in addition to the cost of the silencer. The silencer will also need to be registered with the BATFE and you will need the signature of the local chief of law enforcement (not "permission", just a signature stating that they have been notified) and you will need to pass an additional background check (including submission of photographs and fingerprints).

Pre-Tax:

P22: $350
Laser: $100-$300 depending on brand and whether you're going with a rail-mount or with something like Crimson Trace LaserGrips.
Suppressor: $200-$400 depending on quality, plus the $200 for the NFA stamp, so a total of $400 to $600.

You will also need to make sure that the P22 has a threaded barrel or you will not be able to attach a suppressor.

while the p22 is a cool gun, you may want to handle a 1911 before you buy the p22, especially if this is going to be your only firearm.

a 1911 is the next firearm i will purchase having just got what i feel i need in the "possible ban" holding pattern we are in w/ the new government and its possibilities :( . when you hold a 1911, i think you will know what i am talking about. even the smaller compact 1911s feel good, and for the price you are going to pay for the p22 w/ a suppressor, you can get a nice 1911 - here is 1 link but many others are out there, even ones w/ the rail on the frame.

at the very least, just go handle one :)
