I consider myself an expert with the Beretta 92. I am looking into getting a gun that's a bit more powerful while staying in the pistol category and something that would be easy to carry considering my ccw permit.

I woulda thought an expert would have tried a dozen diff guns in a doz diff calibers while he was at the range becoming an expert and know what he likes by now?
Kinda like asking whats the best car? Your going to get a million opinions and nitpicking on everything on function to how pretty it is.
Its pretty much up to you I found last time I was at the range I really liked shooting the 357 mag, I'll be looking to buy one pending $$$

Step 1) Go to Range
Step 2) Try out different Weapons
Step 3) Buy most liked weapon

The reason I say this is because you are gonna get a crapload of different opinions. Some will say .40, others 9mm, and still others .45. Sometimes you get the CS geeks that chime into these kinds of threads thinking they are experts as well. Desy for example said he likes to shoot a 357. That is fine, perfect for him, but I personally prefer a .40 from Sig or Glock. They just feel right in my hands. Others will have different choices of firearms. I suggest you look into the different firearms first before you ask about anything else. Come back here asking "What is the upside and downside to owning a Glock 23?" or "Does the Sig 220 have any jamming or accuacy problems? Is it also picky with ammo?" Those are the questions you should ask of others.

Well since he has a Beretta 92, which is only chambered in 9mm, pretty much any larger caliber will have more stopping power.

Go try out a few different guns at your local shooting range. I have a bunch of different handguns and I like them all for different reasons. For carry you couldn't go wrong with a Sig, Glock, S&W or HK...there are others though that are equally good. I'd start with a .40 and maybe try a .45 ACP for comparison. .357 Sig is a caliber I've never fired. 10mm is also very good but much more powerful, might be a handful.

I've had quite a bit of trigger time on a P239 in .40 Great little pistol although a bit on the smaller side of what I typically like.
