I notice, while watching the History channel (I watch it 24/7 😀), that all the men in WWI, WWII and Vietnam are blastin' away with their full auto firearms, WITHOUT EAR PROTECTION!

How the heck did they do that? I am sure they would be temporarily deaf after a minute or so.... Couldn't that burst your eardrums? I mean, I have been to quite a few machine gun shoots, and if you don't have your ear muffs on even at like 50 yards away, it hurts your ears.... So you know that the dudes firing a BAR or something is hurtin....

I asked my grandpa what they did in WWII in the Philipine Islands.... and he said, "Bah, nothing! We didn't have anything for our ears. That was the last thing on our minds. You couldn't hear anything for a day or so, but you were alright."

I was like, WTF!

I couldn't even imagine.....

My ex's father manned a turret on the USS Manchester (a light cruiser) during the Korean War. I believe the Mighty Man lobbed more shells than any other ship in that conflict. He suffers from pretty bad hearing loss that's worsened quite a bit the last 5 years. He's now about 72, 73.
