Gun nuts: Shotgun with a chainsaw grip...thoughts?

It allows you to have a better grip at the lower stance when door breaching, so the gun won't fly up.

I love my Mossberg Persuader, but I'd never need the chainsaw grip. Well, I guess if the zombie invasion occurred and I needed to enter homes to find items to survive, but that's about it.

I was hoping to see a shotgun with a 12-inch chainsaw mounted to the barrel like a bayonet.

My friend saw this shotgun on "son of a gun" some TV show I cant watch bc I dont purchase cable TV. The guy on the show stated that SWAT teams all over the country use this shotgun to breach doors....and I responded that a regular shotgun can do the job just fine. Why is this retarded grip on a gun needed? This gun is only good at one thing, and it doesn't even do it well.

I also think that this gun was just featured on a TV show, just to get amatuers who know nothing to tune in to the next episode. "Whoaaa did you see that cool looking chainsaw gun on son of a gun?"

Fucking shotgun with a weed-wacker handle on it...give me a break....

(If I sound frustrated, I just spent the last half hour arguing with this friend and foolishness like this just pisses me off)

Shoulder fired is the most accurate way to fire a shotgun. Always has been, always will be.

And yes, Sons of Guns is retarded.

Total gimmick, I'm losing my respect for Mossberg very quickly.

I saw that episode: what they made was a 12 ga short barrel mounted underneath the foregrip of an AR. Which obviously has zero resemblance to the weapon linked in the OP.

Please help solve a debate I'm having with a friend of mine.... I think this is a retarded gimmick. He thinks its a great shotgun. Lets hear the opinions: http://www.everydaynodaysoff.com/2011/01/05/mossberg-500-chainsaw/

I have fired this gun before and I would not call it a gimmick. It is designed for a purpose like any other tool. The pistol grip and chainsaw handle make it easier to hold against the door at a 45% angle which is the proper angle for breaching the door. Additionally, if you were trying to breach a door with a normal shotgun and you had the butt of the gun against your shoulder you could get fragments of the door in your face. The cleat on the end of the barrel prevents the gun from "walking" on the face of the door.

I would not advocate it as an urban assault weapon even though it would serve the purpose. Maybe the little old lady with arthritis may have an easier time pumping it.

As someone who's actually professionally cleared buildings, that gun is retarded.

We've all cleared buildings, however, usually all it takes is a health dose of milk or ice cream followed by a bean burrito for me. I've never had to resort to physical methods.

na i dont think so. it would put your arms at a very un-natural position while kneeling.

I've never seen anyone kneel when shooting out a deadbolt or doorknob.

The overhand grip is most definitely not necessary, but it is somewhat helpful. The only people who'd ever really benefit from it are swat and military.

The overhand grip gives you a better position to put more force behind jamming the end of the barrel into a door or door frame (the end of the barrel on this model has points on it, to better ensure the barrel doesn't slip away before or during the shot).

If you don't think that having an overhand grip helps control the recoil in situations like that, then you don't know what you're talking about.

I agree with the premise that the overhand grips can help to control recoil...but....I've never had a problem controlling recoil on a regular pump action shotgun anyway. My argument is that the gun is (over)engineered for one specific purpose...for breaching doors at the expense of using it as a regular shotgun. And the overhand handle makes the gun perform worse for regular shooting. Can the iron sights even be used with the big clunky handle in the way?? Therefore, you now have a gun that only performs at door-breaching. Something a regular shotgun can do just fine without this retarded looking handle on it. I just think the entire thing is a gimmick and unnecessary. A solution to a problem that was pretty well handled by a regular shotgun. I'd really like to know if ANY police/SWAT or militaries are using this thing...
