What is the range and type of bird? Maybe a .410 shotgun or snake shot .22's if it's not too far away would be more suitable. That .22 LR could travel quite a ways if not stopped.

True, but I'ld rather have a neighbor taking pot shots at a bird with a .410 than a .22LR.

I have seen dogs be shot with a supressed .22 Ruger 10/22 and it did kill them well enough. That same supressed 10/22 did a pretty good job on several people later on, so yes it can be a very lethal round in the right hands.
