I've been shooting rifles since I was about 7 years old. I'm thinking about picking up a 9mm pistol. Why 9mm? Cheap ammo. The pistol will be used mostly for target shooting.

So, I've been looking at a Ruger P94 but I wanted some other opinions/options for Used pistols.

Thanks!

Used 9mm under $300 covers just about anything. Buy what you like the best. Browning hi-power is a good bet in that range. A Taurus beretta clone would be a great choice. You should get the weapon, 5 or 6 mags and some ammo for $300 if buying used.

The Browning Hi-Power Standard looks really nice. I wonder if I can find one in town.

The Taurus looks really nice as well.

I don't know much about pistols, so any high quality/reputable 9mm recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going to use it for target practice, that's probably too short a barrel for much accuracy for longer distances.

What else would you use a 9mm for? Cappin thugs?

"Home Defense." I'm not saying buying a pistol for home defense is necessarily a good or bad thing, but that could be another use. Or at least another reason someone might buy one.

Taurus and the Ruger looks pretty cool....

... but the Browning looks like something straight out of Normandy.

I think that's the appeal. It just looks bad ass, kinda scary looking.

I'm going to hit the pawn shops tomorrow and see what's out there.

Quality firearms do not tend to depreciate in value if they are well cared for. If you find a pistol for sale that is a quality name, but the price is ridiculously low, I would be suspicious.

I was into shooting revolvers and used to post at sixgunner.com.

When inexpensive autos came up the P94 got good ink. Probably cost more but
the CZ line of arms has surprised many.

The P94 will be a good pistol, they're a bit clunky tho, and it's not a great carry peice if you ever decide to go that route. I had a Ruger P90.

If you can go and extra hundred or two you can get a lot more options.

I have a Para Ordnance 18.9 that I picked up for $500. 18 round pre ban mags in a DA 1911 style handgun.
