Gulftown Expense Justification?

I think Gulftown is a great piece of engineering, fastest cpu on the planet right now. but it's not priced for mass consumption not for another year or two.

And by that time it will not be the fastest any more. (Already now it is not the fastest, with all the Xeon and exotic chips around.)

It's fine for light duty use - 2 perhaps 3 drives. For power users with 10-24+ drives a dedicated host is the only way to go.

Because they can. Those who purchase the extreme edition processors can do so because they don't *need* to justify their purchases. 🙂 Ie, not most of us--but more power to ya if you can. That's like saying "what's the justification for purchasing a porsche" 🙂 lol

just because you can rationalize something, does not mean that it is rational.

You could just bicycle down to the local library & use the computer there.🙄 This issue is not whether you pi$$ away money, it is just how much.

There is more justification to that purchase, than there was getting the 975 over the 920 in my opinion.

This is the trueth here . Its the first time really that buying the $1000 cpu can be seen OKY docky

I thought about 980X myself but for me it's too close for Sandy Bridge and 68X chipset...

Do I have the money to do it, yes but in the end I know I would be kicking myself...(for stupidity that is)

Haha too close to Sandy Bridge? I don't know if I can wait that long actually. I wish they had a new architecture every six months. Just think the desk and wall coverings of cpus and motherboards would take far less time to achieve. 😉

with this logic you can wait a bit longer and check out BD in Q2/2011 as well before deciding to drop your cash on something worthy.
