Guitarists: Need recommendations

Hey all,

I've been out of the music hardware loop for a long time and I'm looking to get back into playing guitar. Unfortunately, I sold a bunch of my pedals to pay for school expenses, so all I have now is my guitar and amp. I'm looking for a new distortion pedal at the very least, but I'm also thinking about getting one of those multi effects pedals from Boss or Digitech. What would be a good way to go? I mostly listen to rock/metal and I like the sounds of Pantera, Testament, Killswitch Engage, etc.

if you just want to play by yourself, multi-pedals or modelers like the POD are fine. if you want to play out to people or do any real recording, they just won't cut it. so ask yourself what you want to do. 🙂

Also think of down the road though. If you ever find yourself in a situation to record, will you be equipped to do so? Just think of it as if it were like buying a major appliance; pay the extra one or two hundred now and be happy 3 years after the cheaper one would've broke. (Not quite the same, but adapt it to the situation. 😉)

Having the tools to easily record can also greatly improve your playing and song writing if you decide to take your playing further.

I've been reading reviews on the BOSS Metal Zone and the Line 6 Uber Metal since they're about the same price. Anyone have any experience with either of these?

I don't own a metal zone but I have used it a few times. I liked it but it's a pretty heavily distorted pedal. The Ibanez TS-9 is a nice pedal to own too.

While we are on the topic of guitar... about a month ago, I saw a fender squire while on the road. It was going for about $100. It was a strat style guitar, but had no tremolo. It was also the thinnest and lightest fender I have ever seen. I have since looked for this guitar online, but can't find anything about it. Anyone know what this is?
