Has anyone had good luck learning to play guitar with software? If so, which one?

I have instructional books that came with my guitar and I know of DVDs out there, but thought computer instruction might be a good alternative.

Plan on lessons as well, just trying to get a sense of everything that's available.

I've tried a few guitar teaching apps and have not found anything good yet, most are just animated guitar tabs with MIDI sounds.

I like Guitar Pro 5.

If I come across a lick that I'm having difficulty with, Guitar Pro allows you to slow it down; then you can play it at your pace.

There are thousands of tabs that you can load up in Guitar Pro. Its not just about loading up your favorite song tab and trying to play it. I believe there are many scales and other instructional tabs you can load up as well.

I use Guitar Pro 5.2 as well. It's definitely not a replacement for lessons but it can show you how to play songs once you have a decent foundation.

There are a quite a few PC based programs out there too. E-Media has at least two.

There are some lessons on You Tube, at Ultimate Guitar, Fender has online lessons for free as well.
