Guitar question: RHCP - Californication

Just curious - how does everyone here play the chorus?

I have an old tab that says:: C, G, (020030), Dm, (000231) Am, C, G, Dm (one strum for each chord) - that sounds right to me but almost every other chord I can find says C, G, Dm9, (000560) Am, C, G, Dm9. For some reason to me, Dm9 doesn't sound right.

http://www.mxtabs.net/tab_versions.php?path=Guitar,r,1053,Red+Hot+Chili+Peppers,Californication,14168&PHPSESSID=0773dd23deb0739ba4e788d928792ee3

Link to a tab with Dm9, and instead of one strum per chord they have multiple strums (maybe my sound system sucks but I can't really hear more than one strum per chord)

Thanks. I've had my guitar for about 2 years and have never really played it because I got bored with it but now I'm forcing myself (and having fun to boot) to play it. :)

All chords I play as powerchords, apart from Am (x02210) and whatever this chord is after it (033210) during the "Pay your surgeon very well...." bit ;):)

This sounds pretty darn close to the original, nobody i've played this to has noticed the difference

Here's how I play it:

C (x32010)
G (320003) [sounds good as (320033 also)]
D (x0032x) [heh, make it easy and just leave that last string muted]
Asus (x02200), but Am sounds good too.

Thanks for the advice! Just curious - what are the powerchord you use for the chorus? (I use the same chords for the prechorus)

Asus sounds a lot better than Am, thanks! (I've been playing it as Am) Oh and thanks for the help too silverpig :)

Erm, chords I use...

During the "If you want these kinda dreams it's Californication" bit, i use C, G, D, A, C, G, D.

Just before the Am, WhateverChord bit (in my original post) i go C, G, F, D.

So the structure:

Verse (picky bit)
C, G, D, A, C, G, D
Verse
C, G, D, A, C, G, D
Verse
C, G, F, D
Am, Don'tKnow ("Pay your surgeon very well...")
C, G, D, A, C, G, D

Repeat :)

Solo

Verse
C, G, D, A, C, G, D

Fin

I don't actaully have the song in front of me, i formatted and haven't got round to getting the CD off friend yet, so the number of times each bit is played is not too brilliant.

But hopefully that will help you some :)
