I've seen basically three methods of stringing a guitar demonstrated (and I'm sure there are many more). Which, if any, of these do you prefer? I've seen a few people swear vehemently that locking the string is a bad idea. And it's not clear to me what the reasoning or difference is in using the second method instead of just using the first.
1. Straightforward. Put the end of the string through the hole in the tuning peg with a certain amount of slack, wind it up.
2. Similar to the above, except you wind the string onto the peg (upward) one or more times by hand, then thread the end through the peg.
3. Locking the string. Thread string through hole, wind the end once under the standing string and bring it back and bend it over top to lock it in place.
