That. Is giving me a hard time.

How the hell am I supposed to get my fingers like that?

Thanks,

bar chords....it maky take a while, but they are very useful when you get going....just lay your 2nd finger on the whatever fret you want and let your last three fingers determine what chord you want.

Holy gawd....this will take a few minutes.

They are called barre chords and are certainly the most difficult "simple" chords to learn.

BUT; after you master those you can pretty much play any song imaginable.

if you're feeling lazy just ignore the 2 lowest notes and put your index finger on the bottom 2 strings, 2nd fret.

Hmm....

My wrist hurts now 😛.
I figured out a simpler way (for me)

(bottom to top)
Index on 2
Ring on 3
pinky on 4
pinky on 4
middle on 2
middle on 2

Worked for me.

Here's a (furry) picture of a guy fretting a bar chord on the 10th fret. Image

you should go ahead and learn it correctly the first time. relearning and retraining your hand is a huge pain.

bar chords aren't hard, they just take time.

In the B chord's case, it's easier to bar of course - but I think in the case above it was easier for me to do what I did... even though itinvolves more crisscrossing

To each his own

But don't settle for that jerry-rigged way of playing the Bminor...trust me...you're going to want to learn how to play barre chords.

Fine - I'll keep giving it a shot.

I did notice that the intro is basically a Bminor chord, played out in an archipeggio (?) --> whatever you call those "play each note in a chord individually" things.

Somehow I don't think that's a good idea...probably will cause you more pain and trouble later. I recommend just practicing the proper way. It might be uncomfortable and painful at first, but once you get it down things will be a lot easier for you.

Yes, definitely learn the bar chords. If all you can currently play is open chords, they're the next step up in guitar mastery.

thats a hard chord shape, but also very very popular. good luck!

im also working on perfecting it 🙁 sucks

what song is that?

yikes, if you plan on continuing playing for a while do your fingers a favor and learn the proper way of playing bar chords 😛

Tricks to barre chords

1. Work on building up the muscle between the thumb and index finger by getting a small rubber ball and practice clamping it between your thumb and index finger.

2. Practice applying just enough pressure to sound the strings being barred, at first your tendancy will be to clamp down hard on all six strings which will cause your hand to cramp and tire quickly.

Learn the barre chord version. Once you get that down you just opened the entire neck up for your disposal. Bm barre is pretty easy. Open G and the Asus2 are easy.
