what do you guys think about this guitar package?

the guitar itself is 199, my friend just bought one and its pretty nice. but he recommended me to get a seperate amp w/ a reverb although the fender 15w one that comes w/ the package is suppose to be descent.

what do u guys think?

yeah that's a good guitar for a beginner. reverb is nice but not essential, it just makes it sound like you're playing a giant room. it does help make the small amps sound a little fuller. up to you if you want it or not. but i'd get a squier if i was buying my first guitar.

For a beginner, those packs are fine. That's actually what I started playing on, a Squier Strat. There are some who'd tell you to go with something like an Epiphone (kind of the Gibson equivalent of a Fender Squier), but that's really personal preference.

Squier Strats do have a couple of weaknesses, though. They can go out of tune very easily, and they can have nasty resonance. The electronics aren't exactly top of the line, but that's to be expected. As always, your mileage may vary. Overall, if you're interested in learning electric guitar, there's really no easier way to get started. I say go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Anyway, you have to go through at least one marginal guitar before you can upgrade to the really good axes. 🙂

Edit:

I don't think reverb is necessary, unless you just like the effect. The Squier amp is a good match for the guitar. You could always upgrade, but I don't think it's necessary right from the start. Down the line, sure, buy a better amp, but for right now, why?

Thats the one I bought. Good guitar, the action isn't as nice as I'd like it to be but for $300 with all the goodies I got with it, I'm not complaining.

I thought you already had a guitar? Wait you had an accoustic right?

But regarding the guitar - that's a good guitar for a beginner - a beginner won't tell the difference anyway.

remember that you can get the action lowered by any guitar tech. fenders have kinda high action from the factory.

The bolt on necks on Squiers tend to make the guitar lose tune easily, otherwise, it's a decent guitar.

It's fine, it's the standard beginner's guitar. By the time you decide you like playing, you'll be able to select one on your own.

what about buying the guitar used on ebay? i bidded on the same guitar for like 69 bucks and i'm currently the high bidder.

Be really daring and build yourself one.
I'm trying to do that now. My winter woodshop projects.

Pics when I'm done. But even building it yourself is turning out to be more expensive than these packages. There is a shop in Durham that sells two different packages and I know one (with everything) is only $199. So you might want to look around locally to see if they have them cheaper and if you can actually play one to see how it feels.

Personally I don't like the feel of the neck on the Fender strat copies. Go for an Ibanez RG series (esp. if you are more into rock than blues). The neck on an RG is thinner and the action lower and faster. Throw in a crate amp over the Fender amp and there you have it. Again, it's matter of opinion so it's up to you, there is nothing wrong with the package deal though.

i'm back from work. i've been looking at used squiers on ebay which cost average around 100bucks. how do you guys feel about second hand guitars?
