I've recently got into the whole guitar hero craze with GH3 and Rock Band. I love both games but I can't use the Rock Band guitar for the life of me. I just an rma for the guitar come and it still feels the same.

I'm about to pick up GH2 and I was wondering if I should just the pack with the guitar.

What you guys think of the GH2 guitar vs the GH3 guitar?

GH3 guitar is better, but GH2 guitar is alright. The 3rd one is heavier and just feels sturdier. But the 2nd one works fine if it's much cheaper.

I prefer the wired 360 controller personally, but maybe I'm just used to it

There are no plans to release the wireless guitar separately for a while right?

I prefer the GH3 wireless Les Paul out of all of them, but I sure wish I could play without feeling like I have to desperately pull the neck of the guitar into the body constantly so my green & red buttons don't cut out. Making the neck detachable was such a mind-bogglingly dumb design move that I can't believe it got past testing.

Take some light sand paper to the connections on the neck-end of things. There's a thin layer of glue type stuff that's used in shipping that was giving some people problems.

Some kid at Gamestop told me February also last week and the next day I was at the Best Buy in Fairview Heights, IL and they had them (wireless and GH3) available separately. The general manager said that they were available separately from the first day GH3 was released.

Oh and my son loves the wireless version over his wired. He said the buttons are a bit more recessed and don't stick (yet).

Thanks for the tip, but I fear that the issue isn't just that the connectors are blocked. The neck is physically loose, so I constantly feel it move. Anytime I feel it move in the slightest bit, I worry that it will disconnect and I instinctively pull the neck into the body tight in the middle of playing.

I don't think it affects my own performance anymore because I'm just so used to it, but I sure wish I didn't have to worry about it. Once Activision gets their act together, perhaps I'll RMA it and hope for better.

It's not like making it detachable saved on the size of the box at all, it just seems like such a pointless risk for them to take.

I've been using the GH2 360 wired controllers since April, and I've not had any problems with mine. The only thing I hate is that the clicking of the buttons have gotten loud at this point, because I'm sure I've pressed each button a million times already between GH2, GH3, and RB. However, these games suck unless you have the sound cranked up, so I can't hear the clicking as long as I'm playing it as god intended :p.

Gotcha, well the pins are fairly long so I'd doubt you have to worry about it much. But if it's just the wobbling that gets to you, jam some paper in the space and click it together so it won't budge.

When I first looked at the connection point it did look like the pins were long enough and of a thick enough gauge to last. Logically, I suppose that anytime you have more "moving" parts ie: separable parts there are always extra risks involved. What's the track record from Activision stuff in general I wonder. As an electronic tinkerer since the age of 8 I feel pretty confident with the Les Paul design. I guess we'll find out soon enough - my son's playing the crap out of it.

Red Octane is actually the company that makes & supplies the guitar controllers for the GH series. I've only been on-board since the GH2 360 launch, but the initial batch had some issues with the whammy bar. (Link)
