I am a little late on the guitar hero scene, but my wife is convincing me to buy it.we dont have parties much, but on occasion. so I do not think I want to spend on Rock Band ( although drums sound fun!)so, trying to sift through all this guitar hero stuff I think I might want G5 kit, the G world tour for extra songs?also are there individual songs for DL? the default track list especially on G5 looks weak.recommendations?thanks!

i have GH, GH2, 80s and GH3 for my Playstation 2...... I kinda stopped after that. I really only liked playing guitar and/or bass, so I never got into Rock Band. Singing and drums both annoyed me. hehe

What system?

Uh...this is quite the contradictory statement. You don't want the full band kit, and discount Rock Band because of that, but then you state you want GH5 and GH:WT, which both contain the full complement of guitar, bass, drums and singing?

Also, Rock Band > Guitar Hero

PS - I've been playing Rock Band for about a year now without a working drum kit, and it is still more fun playing guitar in RB than in GH.

You don't need to buy the full band kit with Rock Band or Guitar Hero. I have Beatles Rock Band (highly recommended!) and just have a third party guitar.

So sorry, I have xbox 360. should of stated that right away.this is exactly the mess I am trying to sort out. there is so many games available for this that crossover I have no clue.perhaps I missed the obvious and should just get rock band. that is if it is close in price. I didnt think so.Is playing the guitar on rock band the same as guitar hero?

The concept is similar between the games, but I think the execution is far superior in Rock Band.

Just buy Rock Band 2 and be done with it. One consolidated platform...you don't have to buy the latest game every three months or so like you do with GH. With RB, you just buy the DLC you want, and it will be available in every main Rock Band game. GH doesn't have that feature; even the newer ones limit what songs are exportable from the disc, what DLC works in which GH game, etc.

Rock Band does have the option to export the other games' setlists (with the exception of the Beatles), but the difference is that it exports ALL of the songs (with the exception of a few in RB1), and those songs will work in any main RB game. How many songs are exportable from GH:WT and GH:SH? 1/4? lol

Rock Band is better than Guitar Hero in every single way for any instrument considered. Even if you only use the guitar RB is a better option. The only thing GH may have better is controllers, but you can use those on RB (on the 360 at least) and I still like the RB controllers better.

Just get RB2 and some guitars, then you have the option of buying other instruments later. You then have access to a TON of other songs via DLC, and could rent RB1 to get access to those songs too.

Just wanted to Thank everyone for the advice - ended up getting Rock Band 2 on Amazon for $99 + shipping and I couldnt be happier.

Surprised at how fun the Drums are , all around an insanely fun game for myself solo or with the wife + friends.

The mic seems a little flukey. Was working perfectly then all the sudden the next day my wife couldnt get it to register much of anything and "failed" on a song she was doing really well with just the day before. <Shrug>

I am late getting on the scene but this is one the funnest games I have played in years.

Good choice. Just had a fun weekend playing Rock Band with my Mom and girlfriend. It's really an ingenious game!

Hehe, I own all GH and RB games and prefer RB overall. I buy the GH games for the song differences but have basically shelved GH5 and GHVH because it is so full of fail. The DLC is horrible. RB > GH. Just picked up Lego RB yesterday and love it! Ah, Kung-fu fighting on expert guitar is insane! :)
