Im sorry, but that game looks really fucking stupid and boring.

I thought the same thing until I actually tried it myself. It's a lot of fun. Especially with a group of friends.

Ignorance FTL!

Agreed.

Hey, did Need For Speed 4 ever come out? :p

He does have good dexterity, no doubt, but the point stands that just mashing the right buttons is totally different from having to move your hand around the whole neck WHILE pressing the right notes and picking fast enough with the other

Anyone that plays guitar knows its like day and night, but he is good at it, props to him, no ones trying to steal his thunder, just making sure that people do know it has nothing to do with playing a real guitar

I bet if that child would only spend as much time playing a real musical instrument, he would be the next fucking Jimmy Paige.
He'd be another poor musician? Yeah, great goal. How about he just enjoys his youth and then studies to be a doctor. Yeah, I think that's a better plan.

Learning an instrument is not a lifetime commitment. It's beneficial to learn to use one for the mind, and I certainly enjoy playing my guitar more so than playing guitar hero.

As far as guitar hero skills transferring to guitar, about the only thing that would, could possibly be muscle build up to play really fast. But you're still not playing with the rhythm.

Disagree.

Linking the right hand and left hand are where the "skills" could be useful.

On the 360? How do you cheat on the 360 unless it's via a button combo? Which would be pretty lame IMO.

Not sure about that. Unless Wii can do widescreen. I thought the Wii wasn't HD in any form. 480p with borders on the sides isn't it?

i play the real guitar AND guitar hero

in my opinion, being good at either requires some of the same skills

- right hand left hand coordination and timing
- rhythm (if you don't see the rhythm in GH you need to bump it up from easy and medium and step into hard or expert levels)
- fret feel (knowing where your left hand and fingers are without having to look)
- fingering (ability to hit any button combination at any given second)

of course, being good at one doesn't translate into being good at the other by default
when i first started playing GH i was at a handicap. my 10year old daughter was better than me.

The Easy and Medium levels can be frustrating if you know the song because you don't play every note in GH. In Hard and Expert, its more 'accurate' (note for note), but there are songs where GH has more notes (or more complicated sequences).

An example. Paranoid (black sabbath). Really easy song to play on the guitar (real).
But on hard or expert, it actually involves MORE hand and finger movement for certain parts.

I applaud the games success and entertainment value. And i LOVE that its inspiring kids to pick up a real guitar and keeping rock music alive.
