My amp blew up last week (cool mushroom cloud and everything...it was like having my own flashpot stage effects!) so I'm getting another one.

I'm stuck between the Marshall Haze 15 and the Egnater Rebel 20. They're both about the same price and same qualtiy.

Haze 15:
-6v6 tubes
-built in reverb and crunch effects
-foot switchable 2 channels
-can reproduce the tones of about 4 different Marshall amps

Rebel 20:
-EL84 and 6V6 tubes that you can mix together
-wattage selector lets you choose between 1w and 20w
-effects loop
-no foot switch

I love both of them. Anyone like one over the other?

I think I would have to go with the Haze because its two channel, and I'm curious as to the sound those tubes will make with Marshall speakers.

Have you tried replacing the tubes in your old amp? From my past experiences when they go up in a clould of smoke like that, swapping the tubes out usually puts them back online, unless there is visable damage to other components

It was a solid state amp. The capacitor on the power supply cracked. It was a mid 80's Traynor Bloc100g, so it was due to go. Been my workhorse for 25 years :(

The Egnater. It's extremely hard to get a unique sound out of Marshall's. Don't get me wrong, I love Marshall's. But they remind of Flowmaster's. The quintessential sound that is almost needed but in danger of being overused.
But...that's just my opinion. Give them both a go at GC. Play them for an hour if you must.
However I like Mesa Boogie's for full stacks, and other vintage-ish tube amps for the smaller stuff.

Rebel 20. The Haze 15 was a good idea on paper, but with the amp being made in China... Marshall's normal quality was lacking.

The attenuator on the Rebel sounds sweet. Why not just replace the cap on the old power supply?

What kind of fiddle do you play?
What kind of music do you play?
What is your budget?

Never heard the haze, but the Rebel is fantastic IMHO.

Heh, guys, I've played both amps for about an hour or so (I brought by own guitar to Guitar Center too). I just wish there was an amp that had features of both the Haze and the Rebel together.

Just hope someone owned one or the other to give an opinion. Both have the sound I need, and both have advantages over the other.

Just got back---went with option 3! The Egnater Tweaker :) They didn't have that in stock last time I was there but everyone was talking about it, and I saw why. Going to do the unboxing later tonight ;)

looking at grabbing the same amp in a few months..
LMK how you like it.

I'm in new owners Utopia right now, so now may not be the right time to review it. This is why all buyer reviews are always 5 stars :D But I will honestly say this thing can get a better 70's Marshall and a better Vox AC30 tone than anything else I've tried. For 15w, it gets freakin LOUD after about the 3/4 volume mark (seems to be about the sweet spot for the tubes too).

Anyway, heres some quick cell phone pics of my hastily assembled and messy setup (for now):

I could spend hours playing with all these little switches. It has 6v6 tubes in it, and the switches control vintage/modern tone, brit, AC, or USA output, hot or clean, normal or bright, and deep or tight treble. Probably why they called it the Tweaker :)

OK, was able to play around for a couple of days, and I can honestly say after 20+ years of playing experience---THIS IS THE BEST FREAKIN' AMP I'VE EVER OWNED.

There are no sounds this thing can't do (well...except maybe speed metal). Shimmering highs, awesome bass response, mids anywhere from muddy to clean. All amps should be like this :D

I have a feeling that 50 years from now people will be collecting this sucker.

Damit! My obsession with guitar stuff has been well under control for a couple of years, and your tryin my last nerve :) The urge to make a run to GC and pick up one of these bad boys is strong, must resist!!!!

Some how my Marshall half stack, Marshall 60watt combo, Fender 40w blues deluxe, Mesa boogie combo, and various other amps and cabs seem insufficient at this time :)
