I don't brag often (I don't usually have anything to brag about), but since you brought it up... I am a Metallica guitar fiend! I have been playing Metallica songs on guitar since 1989. I figured out the solo to One by ear when I was 14. I can play every song from Ride through the Black album. Note for note. Sorry, it's just not often that someone is interested in one of my few talents. 🙂

DUDE! You rock already. MetallicA has written some good shiz. I'd love to hear Disposable Heroes. Hell, send us all your stuff.

Metallica rules 😉

I can play a lot of stuff... I haven't played in like 3 months though. 🙁

If someone wants to host it, I'll post an mp3 of me playing along to master of puppets. It's kinda old.. I'm a lot better now, but you get the idea. 😉 I'll need about 10 megs of space. I'd host it myself, but my cable is shut off right now.

I can play a lot of stuff...

the four horsemen
Enter sandman
seek and destroy
creeping death
through the never
master of puppets
battery
breadfan
Am I evil?
the wait
blitzkrieg
disposable heroes
no remorse
whiplash
for whom the bell tolls
blackened
holier than thou

hmmm.. I could probably think of more..

harvester of sorrow..
tried to learn the frayed ends of sanity.. that's some insane sh!t... lol...

Now.. If you really want something hard to play, try some Iced Earth 😉

Ugh.... lol.... I sucked in this recording.

Man, this recording is so old... I haven't listened to it in a LONG time. It's so horrible, lol...

I'll still post it though. Trying to get an account setup on Paulson's site...

I've listened to some Iced Earth stuff and it's pretty good. You guys should give it a try... here's some of the stuff you should look for:

1776, A Question of Heaven, Blessed Are You, Burning Times, Dark Saga, Depths of Hell, Dragon's Child, Fiddler on the Green, Ghost of Freedom, Hallowed Be Thy Name, I Died For You, The Phantom Opera Ghost, Transylvania, Watching Over Me.

Try em... those are the ones I still like out of all the ones I've heard so far.

I'll add to that list...

Dante's Inferno, Travel in Stygian, Pure Evil, The Path I Choose, Melancholy, Stormrider, Disciples of the Lie, Mystical End, Desert Rain, My Own Savior, Reaping Stone, The Hunter, Iced Earth(the song), Stand Alone, Cast in Stone, When the Night Falls, Burnt Offerings, Life and Death, The Something Wicked Trilogy(Prophecy, Birth of the Wicked, The Comming Curse), Dracula, Damien... their whole lastest album is good.. the one with The Phantom Opera Ghost on it.

All of those songs have some badass riffs in them. Even if you don't like the song at first, you will after a few listens. 😉

Fiddler on the green is an Iced Earth and Blind Guardian song. If you like them, check out Blood on My Hands, and My Last Sunrise...

I'm just a beginner, but I really like Metallica's songs and hopefully I'll be able to play them someday. Recently I've just been trying to find parts of songs that looked like something I could handle. I have a question for anyone who could help: I'm trying to play that part in mop that is right before the solo that mrCide played. I don't quite understand how to play one particular measure (its the one that's played in D) - it has a 0h2p0 but then directly above it is written / 3 \ - what exactly am i supposed to do there? Also at the end of the measure it has a 2p0 and then a G right above it, as if they are supposed to be played simultaneously, but when I listen to the song it sounds like separate notes. From comparing the tab to listening the actual song, there seemed to me to be too many notes written in that section, but I could be wrong. Could someone help me out on this?

here is a link to a tab:

Okay, well.. first, that tab is perfectly right for that part. It's just the way it is in the book. You understand what 0h2p0 means, right? It means hit the open string, then hammer on fret 2, then pull off to the open string again. The /3\ just means that it's a triplet. That means really fast. 😉

That whole measure is pretty tricky. On that last one, you have to pull off the 2 and hit the 3 at the same time. So yes, they are played at the same time in a sense.

If you don't already have it, download PowerTab. It is an excellent program. It will help you a lot.

Here's the powertab for Master of Puppets

Another thing that really helped us when we were beginning was Sonique and it's Pitch feature. You can slow the song down, and it really gives you a different perspective of how the music is put together, not to mention you can hear notes that you didn't even know existed before. 🙂

I tried to set up an account on Paulson's pichosting site so I could post me playing master of puppets, but I still haven't recieved my password email. 🙁

Thanks for the tips Eli, that powertab program looks like it will really help. Also about those 2 notes that are played at the same time: is that section played with a pick or fingerstyle? Would it have to be fingerstyle to play 2 notes simultaneously like that?
