Guitar amplifier ... difference between line out and exterior speaker plugs ?

Would line out work for exterior speaker cabinet and vice versa is an amp only has
one or the other?

line out is not amplified so you would need to run that to another amp then to the speaker

Line out is only for line level signal applications. If you plug it into a speaker cabinet, you won't hear a thing. (well maybe a very light whisper)
DON'T connect your 'speaker out' jack to anything but an unamplified speaker that can handle the load. You will fry whatever you plug that thing into. Things not to connect a speaker out jack to: Mixers, soundcards, guitar amp inputs etc.
