Bass is common to use in black and tans also.
When used with Boddington's they are sometimes called "bumblebee's". very tasty.

Depends where you get them. In most bars a Black and Tan is Guinness and Bass and a Guinness/Harp is a Half and Half. Some will serve the Guinness/Harp as a Black and Tan and if you want Bass instead of Harp you have to ask for it when ordering. If you're unfamiliar with how a particular bar does it just specifically order it with whatever you want, ever if they serve it one way they'll do if the other way if requested.

And always order it layered.

So if you read the bottle they say drink it from the bottle, do not pour it into a glass (this is for guinness draught bottles) because the nitrogen is slowly released with each drink. The cans say open and pour immediately into a glass, because the widget releases all of the nitrogen at once. So if you are making black and tans you really need to use the draught cans.

Just throw the lager out and make a Snakebite instead. It if obviously the superior beer based mixed drink.

never was a fan of hard cider.i perfer shandys, although in terms of a shandy does it work with flavored lemonade also

Ehh, I'd rather go for a good stout, but in the summertime, a good stout isn't always ideal when it's fvckin hot outside. In which case, a dry session stout mixed with some pale ale could indeed be very refreshing...

That said, I recommend you try a Black and Red ... Southern Tier makes an excellent 7.5ABV chocolate stout. Mix that with your favorite Fruit Lambic ... and youve got an excellent desert/treat...

That said, nothing like a good barrel aged stout ... mmmmm

The great part about a snakebite is that it cuts the sweetness of a cider while sweetening the dark stout. I don't drink them often (more often then now I would prefer just the Guinness) but they are a good drink for when the full body of a Guinness is not wanted.
