has anyone seen this in the US at all?..i just got back from the UK and been drinking Guinness Extra Cold, practially in every pub on tap there, and in my opinion tastes better than the regular Guinness you find on tap...it's the same drink but just chilled a few degrees lower coming from the tap...

Now don't they serve it warm in the UK? I could be wrong. And are you saying it tastes better than the regular guinness there or the regular guinness nere, because it is obviously going to taste better than the guinness you get here. Even the regular guinness there will be better than ours.

They used store the casks and kegs in a small room open to the outdoors...it kept the beer rather cold..around 50-60 deg F.

They now have keg refrigerators in England, even Wales, in most pubs and serve beer at about 45-50 deg. F.

We do serve beer a little cold in the states, but oh well. No Biggie.

miniMUNCH <-- been to Europe and UK several times

Oh ya...beer is not pasterized in Europe as it is the states which is one of the main reasons beer tastes better in Europe. Pasterization, heating to approximately 80-85 deg. C, kills some microbial load in beer but also zaps some of the flavor.

Speaking as a seasoned British beer drinker, I can say that we serve beer, i.e bitters, ales etc. at slightly below room temperature (basically whatever temperature the beer cellar is) but lagers are always served chilled, just as they are supposed to be.

Room temperature beer would never go over too well in the States simply because most beer drinkers in the US are stuck thinking that real beer is Budweiser, Coors, and Miller Genuine Draft. I still can't figure out how people actually drink that swill -- it makes me gag.

Unfortunately, I'm about as far away from British bitter as I can get, smack dab in the middle of west central Texas. *sigh*
