This. In my experience, a good beer does not need any kind of "fancy" aging or maturing in barrels to be good. It's totally unnecessary and plain ol' stupid if you put in what could be a fine beer, in its own right, into a barrel or cask. One of the worst beers I've ever had was a beer that was aged in tequila barrels. After that experience, I've never had high expectations for beers that come out of a barrel."bourbon barrel" beers are for people that like neither beer nor whiskey.
