My 5 year old got a chain mail saying forward this to 5 people and you will be in the guiness book of world records 2007. As I was throwing it away thinking it wasn't legit I noticed it said just write "guiness book records for kids" instead of a stamp and it will get delivered anyway. I noticed on the envelope that's what the previous sender did and it got delivered.
Has anyone heard about this? It seems that this could be a free way for some dishonest people to send free mail. I am skeptical about this.
I think most people assumed you meant an email forward. Then you started talking about stamps. Are you saying your daugther got a chain mail physically in the mail, through the post office? Like it was delivered to your house? That's crazy.
And to answer your question, the stamp thing is true. It's a little known fact that in 1982, the founder of the Guiness Book also held a position below the Postmaster General. So like his right hand man. They worked in a promotional piece that had a cleverly disguised clause that allowed for postage-free delivery of letters if the words "Guinness Book of World Records For Kids" on it. It sounds crazy at first but you have to understand that kids don't have money or a means to go buy stamps (transportation). Many potential records are in small developing countries.
Please don't abuse this.
