It just tastes bitter to me. I want to like it but I can't quite get that accomplished.

I guess if you like coffee you would like Guiness? Because I hate coffee.

Actually, it's not really close to coffee at all.

Now an uncommon stout actually has coffee in it. THAT tastes like coffee.:beer:

Guinness is definitely one of those "love it or hate it" stouts.
That being said, nothing beats a good Guinness :)

Did you have guiness out of the bottle, or draft?

The first time I had guiness was on tap, mmm that was good.
But any of the bottled guiness has never appealed to me, although the double stout is ok.

If you drink it cold, its tough to drink. But let it sit for a little bit then it will go down like water ;D

First time I drank a full drink was a pint of Guinness. I felt sick to my stomach just sipping it. I kept ordering it and it kept getting better and better.

The fist time I had it though it was the most aweful thing ever. I learned later that after sampling a few different pubs that it can make all the difference though.

Watch where you buy it from ;)

Edit: in addition, the question I have is why do people say its so "thick" ? I mean, to me, a milkshake is thick. It isn't even anything like regular (2%) milk. I don't know. I'd say its about as thick as skim milk? but nothing more

Drink something harsher than Guinness, and then it won't seem so harsh.

I'm drinking one right now!

It's becoming my beer of choice lately. I bought a 12 pack about a month back and have been hooked ever since. Very good tasting beer.

Well, you can say that almost anything is an aquired taste. Guinness has a unique flavor that does take some getting used to. However, I've grown to love it. I can drink pints like water these days, which is really not a good sign...
