What would i need to buy? Just Factions? I'd want all the expansions and i'd be playing it for the pvp.

You want all of them? Then buy the original Guild Wars as well as Factions and Nightfall, it'll cost around 150$ to do it, and if you're REALLY into PVP and want access to all the skills immediately, then you have to pay them even more (cant remember how much).

You can buy ONLY the PVP versions if you are solely into PVP which are cheaper. Get Prophecies (Original Guild Wars) to start off. You don't have to have any to play the others. They are totally separate games from each other but if you do own the others, you can link them together and have your character go between the games.

I believe the PvP versions cost $40 each.

So, if you wanted to PvP only, you could just buy all of the PvP versions for $120.

The player base is smaller than it used to be in Prophecies, only because the population is spread out over 3 Chapters. Factions is supposedly the most dead though, so I would advise getting Prophecies, Nightfall, maybe factions later.
