Guild Wars 2

First one was meh.
I wish there were easier ways to run around and unlock new areas. No one wants to join my party just for exploration. And I'm fucking tired of burnt Ascalon. Had that game 4 years now (I think) and only got up to level 11.

heh heh same. I kept questing with the NPC party members. Never got far, I think I got up to lvl12.
I loaded it up whenever I felt like playing a diablo-esque game.

Guild Wars 2 sounds far more promising. Offering what I want from MMO style play without the fees, and focusing on story. The GW lore is enjoyable, which is what sets it apart. It's really the only fantasy style quest romp that I can enjoy to any degree, but found troubles committing to the first game for any more than a week or two of intermittent play.

So the lack of fees for GW2 is very nice to hear, because that means I can continue to load it up when I feel like it and not have to buy a month of service and end up wasting it when I only play a week. 🙂

The other thing I liked about it was that the world never moved on without you. I never played the original GW all the time so it was good that nothing moved on without you.

The reason the first one was good was the 8 skill limit, which made for awesome PvP.

...I hope they don't turn it into another WoW clone. 🙁

From what I have heard, the PvP should remain the same but the PvE will be more like a traditional MMO, so the GW1 way of doing it where the city was massive but outside it was instanced is probably going away. Not sure how I feel about that, but so long as I don't have to worry about random players popping out to kill me, I think I will be happy.

Looks like a wannabe Warcraft. Honestly, why do the gnomes always have to be the ones with steampunk robots? Why is that necessary?

I think it has to do with the fact that in Tolkeinian literature, dwarves were the mechanically minded or engineering types. Man was a sort of catch all, elves were more nature oriented.

In the case of GW2, they are short people, but not dwarves. The Guild Wars universe already has dwarves, and they are of the Tolkeinian sense, miners and engineers. The race with the technological golems were introduced in Eye of the North, the only true expansion to Guild Wars. Unlike dwarves, they are, IIRC, heavy into electricity as opposed to steam or clockwork.

I am looking forward to trying out that race see what they can do.

Yes, I know all that lol, I'm a big Tolkien fan. 😛

My point is that these people are so unreasonably advanced, creating robots and so forth, it kinda makes the whole setting somewhat redundant.

I'm looking forward to the game, but meh... this trailer is exactly the same as the one released one month ago. They just slapped on a new name for it.

Guild Wars was an interesting concept, but the execution was just...blah. The world was just so bland and generic, and there really wasn't anything that kept my interest for very long. WOW is just oozing with character, while Guild Wars felt so...sterile. I just couldn't get into it at all.

Oh, and no jumping. 😛

Bingo. I hated GW because of this.
