Guild using Ventrilo...

So, the guild I'm in is talking about using Ventrilo. The argument has begun on who pays and how much.

Are you in a guild that uses Ventrilo? If so, who pays for the service (assuming you are going through a third-party and not hosting yourself)? Guild leader(s)? Each member? Also, what is the payment from the guild members (i.e., gold, real $, etc.)?

If you're not in a guild that does this, then what is your suggestion in this situation?

the last time I played a group MMORPG... we used Teamspeak... it was free to all clan members.

the last time I played a group MMORPG... we used Teamspeak... it was free to all clan members.

someone has to pay for the server hosting unless they run if off their own pc/server.

the client is free, but the server is not.

I've been lucky, we've always known someone that already has a server and just sets up a channel for us.

If you don't already have a server then it should be the guild leader(s). They should pay it no questions asked.

Doesn't Xfire have a VOIP feature as well? Never used it though.

Thanks for your replies. Yes, xfire does have VOIP, but I've not used it in the past. I plan to test that out tonight. Ventrilo uses so little bandwidth and has worked so well for me in the past, that I tend to lean that way. As far as $ go, typical hosting starts at about $4.95/mo for 10 users and goes up from there by the amount of users.

And I do agree that the guild leader(s) should be responsible for paying
