Always put dark colors with your light colors. And remember, anything can go in HOT water and be put in the dryer for hours at a time, shrinking is a myth.

EDIT:

Seriously, separate the colors, light and dark loads, generally dark colors should be in warn or cooler water (it keeps then from fading). Most people use too much soap, so don't overload on the soap either.

Check the labels on the clothes for the temperature. Don't wash lights and darks together.

I don't separate colors either. But then again, I don't really care/none of my clothes bleed . . ..

I separate my whites from my colors, but that's about it. I usually wash everything in warm water.

It actually scares me a bit when people who can write programs to take over the world can't figure out how to do a load of wash.

Because in a program if you mess up you just get an error message. There are no error messages in laundry. If you mess up your clothes are screwed.

Haha - OK, that's one way to look at it!

I always thought that it would be easier to buy new underwear than to save the world!!

I just throw it all together and wash it on warm. I have yet to see any clothes change colors even slightly.

I agree. I throw everything, white or dark, in one load and wash it in cold. Nothing bleeds, works great. My ex, on the other hand, was one of those "dry clean everything" girls...

I'm with eakers and astaroth, cram your clothes in, turn it on cold, toss 'em in the dryer on low, done. I do wash my sheets and towels together in hot...namely because I feel like I should use hot for something.
