iphoto is installed in the computer by default? i have a MacPro i bought it the last year but i dont know where to find the iphoto.. actually i am looking for photo editor totally free for Mac all the time... but i dont have many satisfactory results..

Usually iPhoto comes with the Mac. Did you buy the Mac Pro new or used? If it was used, the previous owner may have reinstalled OSX and neglected to install iPhoto and didn't include the discs.

Picasa is a great free alternative from Google, which I personally like better:

You can create and setup your Apple ID at any time, even after setting up your Mac, but there is no reason to wait. Do it now, at your leasure, so there is one less think to do once you get your Mac.

Do you guys know of any good system monitoring (CPU, battery etc) software? Also, any hard drive cleaning utilities (like CCleaner in Windows).

Also, I've had this mac for about 10 months and it's going great. Do you think I should get the Applecare for it? I only have a couple of months left on the warranty.

iStat Menus for system monitoring, and I like AppZapper to get rid of any additional unwanted library files.

The cost of AppleCare is lower than almost anything that can go wrong on the system. Past that... If you intend on selling it within the next year or so, then having AppleCare can add to the value.

Thanks for the tip on iStat!

Great guide!
Can any here guide me on getting office 2010 for free on mac

That would be frowned upon, that would probably require piracy. You can check with your school/employer to see if they have a discounted purchase program.

Or, use iWork, if you got a new Mac, it came with it for free (you'll probably need to download it from the Mac App Store).

Thanks, OP. Your guide was really helpful. I appreciate the Windows/PC user perspective and explanations.
