Hi there,

I'm hoping folks can assist with figuring-out the most appropriate card(s) for my needs in a new build. I don't game at all but do photoshop with large photography files and multiple layers. I am building this primarily as a relatively future-proof photoshop CS4 machine that will run dual monitors (one CRT and one LCD).

I understand that PhotoShop CS4 (due out this Fall) likely will use GPU power extensivley for the first time, though specs on how that is going to work and what the GPU requirements will be are not yet known. I expect that I wil have to purchase a new graphics card once these specs are known (and once I graduate from grad school next year).

In the mean time, what card would be most approprite in the build outlined in the sig below for running Vista Home Premium 64 bit Aero flawlessly and current PhotoShop versions (2D photo work)? I figure that I don't need a particularly fancy card but my three most important requirements are stability, stability, and stability!

I've done a LOT of reading and remain pretty confused around the issues of card stability with Vista 64 bit, heat, card size, and cost -- the latter of which is important as I am on a student's budget. The whole build is coming in at under $900 so I'd like to keep the card cost down to below 10% of that if possible. But operating problem-free is my number one concern, followed by price/performance. I might add that finding non-gaming card information is very difficult to find!

Thanks for taking the time to help -- it is much appreciated!

Cheers

Eric
