A friend of mine is a sound engineer in a nice NYC recording studio. From time to time I go there and record stuff with other buds of mine. He mIxes and records our stuff on the sly (after hours). We spent some time there last night, and this is last night's track. Guess which instruments are real and which are fake!

I'm guessing the very first split second monkey scream in the first 1/2 second. And the synthesizer is fake......drums are real right? guitar....fake? are the rim-shots real?

anyways, sounds cool

Drums lack nuance. My guess is that it was all done with software or multiple synths.

Incorrect. :)
The drums are fake AND real. This program enables you to use real recorded drum beats and mix your own beat out of it. It gives you a great drum sound in a program.
Guitar is 100% real in some places and "helped out" in others.

Real drum sounds does not a real drum make.

Of course. But you gotta agree it's a good sound for a drum program.

I was not questioning the sample itself. I was stating that software or a sampler and sequencer were playing the drums. The drum hits sound the same on every hit. If it were a real drummer playing the snare would have a slightly different sound on each hit based on the inability of drummer to hit the particular instrument in the same spot with the same force every time.

It is a nice sequence by the way, well recorded and the sound is nicely balanced.

Good point, I wouldn't have noticed that. Are you a drummer?

Thanks.

What other percussion besides a drum kit do you hear on the track?
Granted, I did listen to this on my computer speakers.

It all sounds fake. Even the guitar doesn't sound very real. Sorry, but the drums sound REALLY fake, and I get fooled by drum machines sometimes. :)

Don't listen to the repetitive machinelike beat. I'm talking about the actual sound of the drum.

Guitar is real, though heavily played with. Sometimes it's real mixed with fake.
