A 3 1/2 foot long Iguana!!!! He is the coolest thing I have ever seen. Do not get me wrong, I have seen them before, but never up close enough to touch them.

He is someone's pet because he isn't worried about people at all and let me walk right up and touch him. At the time I was afraid to pick it up (Not knowing how to handle one or if he even bites) so I used a net and box to catch him. After I had it for a while I got brave and stuck my hand in the box with him and low and behold he let me pick him right up without a fight 🙂 I held him for a while. He even tried to crawl up my chest to get on my shoulder!!! Too Cool!!!!

He is orangish brown on the body and grey/tan/black stripes on his tail.....

Needless to say about 3 hours after I found it, Some kid came by on a bike asking "Have you seen a Iguana running loose"

I got so excited I found an owner for this thing because he definitly is tamed but I cn't keep it because of my dogs plus I do not have a big enough cage for this thing. The boy described it's coloring before I let him look at it, but once he decribed it and then walked up to it, I could tell it was his! He got so excited to see his pet back, he reached in and grabbed it and kissed it right in the nose, then let the iguana crawl up his shirt to his shoulders, and that is where the iguana sat all the way back home. The kid lives like 3 blocks from me behind my house.

Something out of the ordinary happened so I figured I would share it with you folks here 🙂

Sure better then finding an alligator like that old lady!

LOL!

First seeing it from a distance, an alligator is exactly what I thought it was 🙂 Glad to see when I got closer that is wasn't. Quite honestly, I was more afraid of this thing then I would have been for a gator the same length. I see gators daily and know how to grab those safely, but Iguana's are something I do not see everyday...

Better you found it that the neighborhood cat. I used to have an iguana, but my cat pulled the lid off his aquarium and ate him. R.I.P. Cleophus.

About 2yrs ago (give or take) I was bike riding, heading home, it was raining off/on. Crossing the street from a field to our neighborhood was a huge lizard thing. It stopped in the middle of the far side (from where it was crossing).

This is S.FL so I wasn't sure if it was a pet, or wild, or a pet gone wild. But it was damn huge and no one would be carrying that thing home on their shoulders. The legspan was 2ft easy. The tail was another 1.5ft at least. It was wide too, more like a gator than an iguana/lizard. It had one of those spiny backs (with 3-4"+ points) all the way up to and onto his head (very unlike a gator).

Anyway it was so impressive it stopped traffic. This was a 6lane divided road and it was rush hour. Cars stopped, people got out, one guy sort of chased it across the road... but it didn't really want to move. Eventually it crossed the rest of the way and scurried into our development (under some bushes into a wide field between the two sub-developments).

Before that sighting, There were stories about cats being eaten in our neighborhood and people were blaming some stray dogs. After seeing that lizard... I'm not so sure it was (/just) dogs. :Q I don't know if they eat meat / insects / plants or whatever, but, that thing definitely eats a lot of something.

I had an iguana for a few years. When I was about 12, I lost it. ;(

We used to let him roam around our house and he usually stayed out of the way. But, one day when my mom had the windows open, the iguana clawed his way through a screen and got outside.

It was really frustrating too because my friend came over later that day and was telling me about an iguana he saw in our neighbor's tree.

Of course it wasn't there when I went to go look. Iguanas are awesome, though. They eat anything. My iguana even ate a pointsetta and it didn't phase him.
