Pretty nice place for the leader considering that most of the afghans did not have a decent place to even live and that the fact he wanted everyone to sacrifice everything for god :|:|:|

They keep talking and showing pictures of how deplorable the conditions are over there. They shows streets where building are half blown up and all the people are eating bread crumbs with mold and things of that nature. But then, yesterday I read an article about how over the last couple weeks since the Taliban has been pushed out of the cities, that more and more satellite dishes are popping up on rooftops and people are once again able to watch what they want.

Seems like the media is trying to spin doctor the conditions over there. They keep trying to make it seem like the absolute poorest place on earth, but I don't think it's really that bad. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to move there, but I wouldn't whole heartedly take everything you see about the conditions as being true everywhere.

Also, you see plenty of articles about looting during the attacks and as the Taliban retreat. What are they supposed to be looting if you believe all the images the media shows you? Are they looting their neighbors tent for another slice of molded bread?

well the buildings are hald blown and the people are fighting just for some bread. only in kabul actually is it somewhat modernized. u have to realize that 85% of afghanistan is rural area. so only one or 2 cities really are somewat at an acceptable standard of living.

well, ever since the taliban have left, gangsters and other groups have been able to return into the cities and begin looting the people and traders. also, the northern alliance has been known to loot people and rape the women and since they have come in, these things have started over again.

I've heard this from the beginning. I think people are forgetting this when they watch reports of the US aiding the Northern Alliance and helping them to whip the Taliban clean. I think many people want to believe (or do believe) that the Northern Alliance are a bunch of rebels that want to rid the country of the Taliban and bring peace and stability to the country. They may not be as bad as the Taliban, but they are no saints either. This is probably why the US was hesitate at first to cooperate with them and follow their orders and gameplan.

Sorry to disappoint you but they are following our game plan and orders but you are right about the hesitation. The U.S. is just not yet in position to establish a well policed state over there. But those NA boys will fall in line. You watch and see.

Those NA boys are actually a very nationalistic group. They only want afghans inside afghanistan. That is why they are often a little lenient to let the afghan taliban but they often commit many crimes against the foreign fighter of the taliban, namely the arabs, chechens, and pakistanis. we'll see how they are once they have their chance at power...

Reminds me of a picture I saw that was taken in the early 80's here in Oregon. A guy in a Rolls Royce driving past his followers.

How could they be so blind as to not see the problem with that?
