Probably a good idea, those have enough wattage to cause permanent damage; wouldn't want some asshat accidentally scaring my retina.

On one hand, people should ask why do others need such powerful lasers? On the other hand, this is a complete over action from the government.

a year or so ago, I went camping at a dark sky park.

there was a guy out where who used a high-powered green laser to identify constellations and such. it was pretty cool.

I figured this was only a matter of time. The high powered lasers are a lot of fun, but there were too many gene pool rejects pointing them at airplanes.

First they came for out lasers.

Then, they came for our sharks. :(

You know, that wasn't a shooting star you saw streaking across the sky that night....

Much ado about nothing?

From the article:
the FDA noted that the draft does not “establish legally enforceable responsibilities. Instead, guidances describe the Agency's current thinking on a topic and should be viewed only as recommendations, unless specific regulatory or statutory requirements are cited.”

Maybe it leads to something maybe it doesn't...I thought they were all capped at 5mw already:\

Thank god for that. People were getting lasered left and right around here. Now we need to outlaw bad breath and prolonged eye contact.

Too many idiots. The military has laser guided weapons, it would be easy to just eliminate anyone shining lasers at planes.

Considering it is not a freedom enabling device, like a gun, the government taking it away doesn't have as strong as an impact as the government taking away guns, or free speech.

It can be used as a weapon, yes, but it isn't as effective as a gun, knife, arrows, so it being banned is of little import.

I was astounded that this mode of thinking still exists. Then I read the rest of these responses.

So the new metric of whether it's ok for the government to restrict something's sale is "why do people need it".

"Being Banned has little import".

Holy crap.
