I remember you could pay a few bucs more to get the sure DL3TC / JHIUB steppings for AXP's...

Anyway to get them in A64's?

:)

What is the best current stepping for the 3000+ Athlon 64?

For sure.

The pic shown on newegg website shows "CBBFD"

3000+

Do that constantly update those pics?

Reading around, and see certain chips in stores, the "CBBID" is a pretty weak stepping overall..

Newegg would gaurntee you the newest stepping available if you got a retail package. To be honest Winchester is hit or miss anyway so even if you got a good stepping it doesnt mean much. My stepping was one of the best and my CPU was a real turd...did 2.4 max

Well 1.8->2.4 isn't really a TURD.

That's pretty decent overclock, reguardless of the stepping.

I guess I'll take a shot and see.

I have, honestly, no idea how to get the best steppings. As others have said (here, and elsewhere), it is usually hit-or-miss.

I have no idea what steppings mine are, but I do know that I purchased it in November. I have OCed mine to 2.533GHz (up from 2.010GHz), and I think that I could probably go farther, but I just don't want to push it, as this thing is a screamer as it is. Besides, SiSoft Sandra, and Everest Home, say my CPU is an Athlon 64 4100+ (2.533GHz). Not bad, eh? ;) :D

The way I find mine is to find a store that will let you look at their retail boxes or OEM trays. I have found my best OCers that way. Most every month I hit up at least 3 stores and look over their retail boxes. Heck, even CrapUSA has their boxes on the shelves now. Their prices may be higher but if it turns out to be a good overclocking chip, the premium is worth paying.
