Wanna know who you guys would think are SURE FIRE HOFs

So far i have

Pitchers
Maddux
Clemons
Pedro
Mariano Rivera
Big Unit

Hitters
Bonds
Palmero
Griffey JR
Piazza

There should more
I would say Jeter, Arod, Glavine, Alomar, Irod would be possible but not sure fire.

Only one I can think of off the top of my head that you have not mentioned is Sosa.

Its crazy that Griffey Junior is still a sure fire hall of famer after the last few years with the Reds. Imagine if he never fell off from his Mariner years. He'd be damn near 600 career homers.

Some players that may someday be on that list but not yet are, Albert Puljos Vlad Gurrero and Eric Gagne.

the way glavine is going this season he is well on his way. CY Young + World Series MVP gives him a good boost. I think Biggio deserves strong consideration. One of the best leadoff hitters of the past two decades, changed positions TWICE, stayed with one team his whole career, and a gold glover to boot.

edit: and yes, Sosa is a sure fire HOF. He should have over 600 homers by the time he retires, if not more.

The only one on that entire list that is a SURE FIRE hall of famer is Clemens. Everyone else is a toss up, including Bonds because of his steroid accusations, although based on the fact he broke the HR record, he'll probably get the 'benefit of the doubt' vote unfortunately.

are you kidding me? Some are debating whether or not Randy Johnson is the best left hander EVER, and you're questioning whether he'll get into the HOF? Did you see Maddux pitch in the mid 90's? He put together possibly the four best consecutive years EVER, and has won 15+ games year after year after year, tying that Cy Young guy for the record. Not only are those two sure HOF's, but they are first ballot ones at that.

I think what you meant to say is that none of them will be unanimous choices, because no one in baseball has EVER been an unanimous choice. Not ruth, gehrig, dimaggio, ted williams, etc. etc. Sure someone may not vote for Bonds because of the steroids, but it's ludicrous to even think that Bonds wont be a first ballot HOFer.

Ummm..no. Johnson, Maddux, Bonds, and Piazza are definite 100% hall of famers if they stopped playing right now. Pedro and Griffey should also be 100% hall of famers, but sometimes the voters are idiots.

Jeter is a 200-hit guy nearly every year, and has a great post-season resumé, so he has a good chance if he ever gets out of this slump.

Mariano is the greatest relief pitcher in history, a shoe-in.

Clemens? Duh, of course.

Piazza may be one of the greatest rightie hitters ever, so him too.

Maddux has a good shot.

Bonds? Assuming 'roids don't turn him into a Pete Rose for the new millenium, he's clearly in.

Big Unit... I guess the guy has been a strikeout machine his whole career, so why not?

Pedro... maybe. Junior? Another maybe. Too many injuries for these guys.

Palmeiro may be the first 500 HR guy not to make it.

Of the other guys I'd say A-Rod has the best chance. Glavine? Meh. Alomar? Meh. (his last couple of years have been real stinkers). IRod? Maybe.

Interesting fact... the closest any player has come to a unanimous choice, was Nolan Ryan, who was on 99% of writers ballots.

Greg Maddux is not a "toss-up", either. He's in, first ballot, end of story.

I'm still waiting for Tony Oliva. Career .304 hitter, 8 consecutive All Star appearances, lead the league in hits give times, doubles four times, and batting average three times.

I agree. Palmeiro might be the first 500 home run hitter to not make the HOF. He hasn't made that much of an impact on baseball ... he's always been the under-rated player with good defense and great power.

Barroids is in as long as the steroid use doesn't get in the way.
