GTXP turns 6.1...

<< Well, the Game Theater XP is an exceptional product with lots of room to grow. The hardware was originally designed to support up to eight playback channels. This meant that we could go one or even two steps further on our original 5.1 channel drivers by including functionality for seven or even eight channel capabilities, without any need to change the hardware.

Implementing our proprietary algorithm for 6.1-channel playback is the first step in that direction, keeping us one step ahead of the competition. And our customers that already have a Game Theater only need to download new drivers from our web site to give their cards this cutting edge functionality.

Yes you can!... well i don't have one yet... but i'm probably gonna end up getting one!

You are forgetting one thing though...the original GTXP doesn't have connections on the back for 7 speakers... It has front, rear, sub and center..where is the extra speaker going to connect?

It has RCA AND mini-jack plugs for fronts and surronds, and also a subwoofer and a center channel. That's 9.1 outputs... 😀

Yeah, but I don't think you can use both the RCA and the mini jack connection simultaneously can you? Isn't sort of like the ECS board with SDRAM and DDR slots? I would check but my GTXP is sitting in the closet gathering dust somewhere...

Yes, you can use them simultaneously, and apparently, they can use them for different channels too...

And WTF is it doing in your closet? 😕 If you don't need it, send it here. Dual GTXP system.... 😀

I like my AE too much. I got the GTXP because I was having driver issues in Win2K with the AE and I missed it from the first day I replaced it. Now that the drivers are working great, it's back to the AE for me. My other two rigs sound is only for listening to music through the stereo, so the onboard works fine for that...🙂 The QMSS of the AE just can't be beat... especially with my 8.2 Promedia setup. 😉

True, and the headphone output signal level is better as well, but the ability to output any stereo signal to true 5.1 is too nice to pass up. The GTXP would only output some signals to more than two speakers. I have my TV plugged into the AE and I enjoy having true 5.1 sound from that and other stereo sources that the GTXP would just not do. I also use the SPDIF in to connect my H+'s audio output. 🙂
