Man, according to 3D Sound Surge, the GTXP 6.1 will in fact be unique. Yes, the GTXP will remain the exact same as far as hardware goes, but the "6.1" package will include the new drivers and a special version of PowerDVD (which I thought I heard earlier but dismissed it when I got word of PowerDVD XP 4.0 Deluxe). I guess that makes sense since there is NO mention of Dolby Digital EX decoding under the PowerDVD XP 4.0 specs.

Oh well. It looks like I jumped back to the GTXP too early.

From the PowerDVD 4.0 XP readme file:

* Supports 8-channel sound cards like Guillemot GameTheater XP to play DVD titles with
Dolby Digital Surround EX tracks and provides 8 discrete audio channels output. (*)

I would be VERY surprised to see Cyberlink make a completely different version of PowerDVD just for Hercules.

Me too. I saw that in the readme file as well, but why wouldn't they include that on the "main new features" list? The readme says it'll support Dolby Digital EX Surround from 8 channel capable sound cards, but the GTXP does not decode any Dolby Digital sound stream right? I thought the only way the GTXP does DD 5.1 decoding is by a capable softDVD player. Wouldn't the same be true for DD-EX??

The sound card doesn't do any decoding, but PowerDVD needs enough outputs to be able to do DD-EX.

For example, you can't output 4.1 on a sound card that only has stereo output... Same thing with DD-EX. You need a sound card that supports at least 6.1.
