Is anybody running a GTX970 on an Asus P8Z68V (pro or otherwise)? I can't get mine to boot. All I get is a black screen and one of the (DVI) monitors doesn't detect a connection at all. The primary monitor is just black, then it eventually shows a cursor blinking. :(

Asus Strix 970
P8Z68V-pro running latest bios (...from 11/2012!)
Seasonic 750w power supply

The system is perfect with any other card. I submitted a ticket with Asus, but I'm not hopeful for a quick resolution.

EDIT: The card was bad. The replacement Strix 970 works great.

RMA to your retailer immediately. Just to cover yourself in case it is a hardware issue. The only way I would wait is if you have access to another system to test in. Otherwise it is much better to avoid waiting on a Company RMA. The only company I wouldn't hesitate to go through would be Evga. The rest of them can be kind of hit or miss, plus you will likely be out of a card for 4 weeks even if everything goes well.

To be more certain it's the card, I'd reset bios and only use 1 monitor. Can you get into bios?

I can get into the bios with other cards. I guess resetting the bios is relatively painless.

I'm on the latest bios, so updating isn't an option. I'm sure it's possible that Asus can provide an unreleased motherboard bios that can fix the issue.

I'm assuming that card requires dual power connections to your PSU. Make sure they're both solidly connected and the LEDs are both green. That's assuming your PSU is powerful enough for that card. If not, you may need to upgrade it.

Still no luck on this. I've tried everything I can think of from resetting the bios, to trying the card in different slots, to trying to boot with the onboard graphics connected. Nothing works. The damned system won't boot with this card inserted.

I think I'm just going to return the card but I'm pretty annoyed since I got the card for only $313. :(

SO the new GPU is PCI-e 3.0 correct? Install the original GPU into the Z68, boot into windows and open GPU-Z what PCI-e does it show it's running at?

Or even easier what CPU are you using? Of course if you can swap out parts try that, the OTHER systems you have tried the new GPU in are they newer then the Z68 system you have? Try an older bios?

Really need your full system spec's to be able to help you......

I had the same problem when I first installed my 970. I had to reset the BIOS settings to default and made sure the memory settings were at default as well (although it looks like you've already tried this)

I am running a EVGA 970 with my Asus P8Z68 Deluxe with no problems. I am using Bios 3603 from 11/27/12.

Thanks! That makes me think that my issue is either an Asus Strix compatibility issue, or a dead card. I'll just grab an EVGA card if the replacement Strix doesn't work.

View your PCIE settings in BIOS. Also did you ever look in GPU-Z to see what it reported for your PCIE like was suggested?

I couldn't find any PCIE settings in the bios. GPU-Z reports PCIE 2.0. The motherboard is an original P8Z68 pro, not the Gen3.

Mine is running PCIE 2.0 no problem with the same bios. I think you may have a problem with the actual card.

Only advice I can give is that I had issues with my Z77 board doing the blank screen on start up (no bios access) when I got a GTX770 a few months back.

I was in the process of RMA the motherboard (other cards tested fine and it was a working machine before the upgrade). The first email from the supplier was to update the bios. The reason being that the new cards (GTX7xx onwards) supported the new bios formats (UEFI) which cases a lockup on boards that do not know how to deal with it.

If there is no bios update possible to support this feature on your board (being the older generation to mine) then I might think this upgrade of yours will have to be more than just a video card.

edit: checking seems to say you should have that type of bios, so I can only assume card.
