Hey I'm wondering what would be the best card for sc2 graphics wize. I'm not really in a position to go out and buy another 60-100$ card so I really need to know what the best choice would be here.

I have a gt220 ddr3 which I have been using all along but I recently acquired a gts9500 ( with a hdmi output ) and I know they are roughly the same but if I put a microscope to them, which would come out on top?

I have:
AMD 1100T Hex Core 3.3ghz
16gigs of ddr3
ASUS M4A89TD PRO
320g WD at 7200rpm

Thanks in advance

9500gtx =
32:16:8 @ 550mhz (core)/ 1400mhz(shader)/ 1600mhz(mem) (25.6Gb/s mem BW)

220GT =
48:16:8 @ 625mhz (core)/ 1360mhz(shader)/ 1580mhz(mem) (25.3Gb/s mem BW)

220 is newer, has more cores at slightly faster speed, and it being newer, probably better optimised drivers for newer games.

Im fairly sure the 220 is slightly faster of the two.

Their both fairly weak gpus though, that means 1280x or 1680x resolution and low quality settings or something.

StarCraft II only takes advantage of dual cores, but still processing power plays a major role in this game.

Overclock that 1100T to 4.0ghz if u can get it there stable.
Overclock those GPUs too.... any and all performance you can find will be usefull for you.

starcraft 2 thats laggy is hell on your multiplayer skills... kills your micro, if things take 30sec to responde to commands.

Assuming you're talking about the 9500GT, the GT220 should be faster. It appears to have 50% more shaders.

I usually play on low settings so there isnt any lag, sometimes when theres a full all out 200 vs 200 army fight then I might skip a few frames but that was with my dual core amd anthlon 64 4800+ cpu and 2 gigs of ram. im assuming the only limitation now is the gpu which was what sprung the original question, which was better.

Any good guides on how to overclock? I might throw in the 9500 and overclock the crap out of it ( so its stable obv ) to see what I can get out of it.

Btw, never overclocked anything before :p

Thanks

9500 is slower than 220 :\ It's made on an older tech as well.

There are also multiple versions of the 9500, some slower than others. The GS is slower than the GT. They never made a GTS variant.

The 220 also has more overclocking headroom.

Arkaign, thanks for the reply's.

I don't really want to touch the gt220 because I'm afraid if I mess it up and torch it ( so to speak ) I will have this crappy 9500 left. But If I can overclock the 9500 to work better than the stock 220 then I am happy because not only do I get experience with overclocking a little bit but if I ruin the card, hey it was free :p

Ah, well have fun then. If you have some good arctic silver/alumina or whatnot, you can try taking the HSF off of the 9500, cleaning the surfaces well, and applying fresh. I find that in lots of cheap cards they either skimp or forgo this altogether, and a good application can lower temps by a respectable amount.

As you might guess though, the real difference will be when you find some used 9800/250/4850/etc that will truly be a gigantic difference from those cards.

agreed the gt220 or any of the 9500 series is really low on the foodchain. expect pretty lowball preformance. getting anything above an hd 4670/hd 6570 would do a world of good

What would be a good upgrade for about 100$ TOTAL. Including taxes and shipping. Anything?

$100 will get you a monumentally faster card ..

Keep your eyes on the site in this link, and also in hot deals here in AT forums, you'll find something awesome

http://www.techbargains.com/news_displayItem.cfm/280349

that was a 6770 1GB for $69 w/free shipping, which is probably 8-10x faster than a 9500/GT220.
